I loaded them up and my GTX260 works just fine, switches to 3D low after gaming for about 1 minute like usual, then down to 2D...boots up into Vista @ 2D.

It does seem like my OC's are a little more unstable, but then I was pushing pretty far with this card...granted it seems some 280's are getting further.

Nkd what are you watching your clocks with? EVGA Precision 1.3.1 came out the other day, made by the same dude that created Rivatuner...so either works great, I've used 2.09 and EVGA...for this card I prefer the EVGA tuner since it has only what I need in the first place...I don't need much beyond clocks for GPU, Shaders, Mem and Fan speed and a few profiles so it fits perfectly.

I am considering going back to 177.70's, those seemed more stable while my card was OC'd. I did learn something funny though when I had my GPU OC too far beyond the Shader link, it'd kick down to 2D speeds...playing Comat Arms @ 1440x900, all settings maxed, 8X AA got me 22-35FPS...it was actually playable...it'd get a little hitchy here and there...but I was pretty amused by that! Thought I'd share!

The first according to nVidia's site. The 177 series has supported the 8800 series for a very long time. 177.72 release a couple weeks ago supported pretty much every card out. I've been running 177.39 since June 20th on my 8800GS...

okay fair enough. I dont pay too much attention into latest nvidia drivers. Its my dads and he only really likes using drivers of the nvidia site. Once i get my GTX260 it will be a different story tho, lol.

These aren't anything special for me.

The only bonus is that the instance SM 3.0 framerate bug in AoC is slightly less disasterous, but not entirely fixed.

I might have to go back to 175 for a bit.

Dammit Tekie why you still using the 9800 GTX? I'm so glad I got rid of mine. If it wasn't for my 8800 vs 9800 curiosity, I would have never bothered.

You aren't holding out for the 200b are you !???!?!?!?!!?

The 9800GTX(or 2 in SLI actually) is probably my last card for a while. I upgrade in spirts over the course of about a year and I usually skip a generation. then stick with what I have for a year or so and upgrade again.

I had SLI 7900GT's last summer. When they came out with G92 I decided it was time to upgrade. I sold the 7900GT's and bought a 8800GT. I wasn't happy with it, so I sold the 8800GT and bought an 8800GTS(512). Then the 9800GTX came out for $10 more than I paid for my 8800GTS, so I used eVGA's step up program to get the 9800GTX. Now that the 9800GTX's prices have fallen to under $200 I just picked another one up for $160 and will use SLI. I'll probably stick with this configuration until the next big thing after the GTX 200 series hits the market and I'll start the cycle over again.

My card history for my main machine has been:

9500NP(Flashed to 9700) -> 9700Pro -> 9800Pro256 -> 1 or 2 year gap -> x800GTO2(Flashed to x850XT) -> 7800GTX -> 7900GT -> SLI 7900GT's -> 1 year gap -> 8800GT -> 8800GTS -> 9800GTX -> SLI 9800GTX's

I do this with most of my hardware, I get bit by the "upgrade Bug" upgrade something several times, then stop until the next time I get bit. :)

I agree to your method, it's just a shame the GTX was the upgrade ;/

Go Hoosiers!

Go Hoosiers!

I don't really mind the 9800GTX, I knew what it was when I bought it. Heck, if it wasn't for the fact that the upgrade to it was essentially free from eVGA, I would have just suck with the 8800GTS.

Besides, I have a triple-SLI motherboard, and two 9800GTX's already. Maybe in a year when the 9800GTX can be had used for $100 I'll buy a third. :rockout:
