maybe because its nothing but an 8800GT with a die strink, the 4850 or 8800GTS 512 looks like a better buy than this though, seeing as this card is only 10 bucks cheaper than those 2 cards

lol, great minds and all that - the first thing I thought was what a load of marketing bollocks speak that is. I hate how so many brand new or fairly recent things, whether it be cars, music, or technology are called "classic" - it really makes it all so meaningless.

Nvidia really do deserve some kind of award for the amount of variations on a theme though.....

8800 gt revisited...

admittedly it is somewhat redundant it seems to have yet another variation on a theme of the 8800 gt/gts now 9800 gt and even the 9800 gtx...for they are all very close products from a tech standpoint with only either memory type, core speed variations(not huge at that), die size or 112 vs 128 stream processors as being different. May sound like a lot, but not when it's 4 totally separate sku's with not a whole lot of time between the releases...somewhat like chevy taking a camaro and releasing it 3 more times with minor changes within a couple months and renaming it each time...oh wait, Trans Am...:). However I do like the die shrink idea, though I'd prefer they take the gts 512 model with the extra stream processors and better memory on it and shrink that, but wait...then you have the 9800gtx+ so 5 sku's...anyone confused yet?:)

I am guessing that classic gaming performance is when the 2D clocks are faster than the 3D clocks...lol.

I think one post with all of these diff Nvid versions would have been fine. None of them are liek OMGWTFPWNBBQHAX. A top of the line Nvid card would deserve it's own thread, but these cheap-o-depot cards.... who really cares?

imo

What in hell is going on here????
all those new low end cards......so what?
only an idiot would spend 150 bucks for one of these BS cards.
You can get a 4850 for less than 180$,
I think that nvidia is spending some money to reclaim it's it's F* up reputation again.
Fake benchmarks and reviews for ATI's cards..........a lot of their new 9xxx low end card posts.
Does anybody here get his reviews from bjorn3d,neoseeker,nvidiatown or tweaktown........
I get my reviews from reliable sites like tomshardware and techreport.

unless you have sli and if they are 55nm, they will most likely come close to a 9800gx2 when in sli. Then you would buy them

I think I see what is going on. Since the HD 3000 series is officially EOL in AMD's point-of-view, NVIDIA is trying to get back some ground since DX10.1 hasen't been replaced and the HD 3000 and 9000 series are the most well known to the public. Not bad, but since ATI's HD 4850 is now in Future Shop, NVIDIA is not going to get out of reverse at least not anytime soon.

Classic gaming, huh. With all the full physics/graphical monsters out there its kinda hard to think about classical gaming now. Just how classical are we talking about here.

I don't think anyone would buy a $150-170 card just to play freespace. IGPs can kill that & anything lower. That's no ploy but it does give you a few laughs.

But since its NV, we know its still TWIMTBPFTWFPWNKILLDEATHHELLBLOODYOWNZURASS :p I had to let that out :D
