Gateway today gave its FX notebook family a fresh new member, the P-7811 FX gaming notebook. Based on Intel's Centrino 2 platform that runs a 2.26GHz Core 2 Duo P8400 with bumped 1066MHz bus, the P-7811 FX also packs NVIDIA's GeForce 9800M GTS 512MB, 4GB of RAM, a 200GB hard drive, and a 17-inch widescreen LCD with 1920x1200 native resolution. The P-7811FX even includes a 1.3 megapixel camera, a 5-in-1 memory card reader, a DVD writer, HDMI 1.3a connectivity and Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit OS to visualize all that hardware. BestBuy shops should start selling the Gateway P-7811 FX any minute now, so be prepared. The recommended price tag for this configuration is $1,399.99.

That's actually not too bad of a price at all. I expected to see this around $2k, tbh.

Have been looking at laptops and with all of these options it should be in the 2K range. I will buy this if this is the price is 1,399.99 it is a steal...

Sour taste left in mouth after 2 previous gateways went kerplunk. Both after 13 months, 1 month after the warranty. Don't know how they planned that but im through with them for awhile.

Hey folks,I wonder how can it be possible for 1.4k with those haedware since which they had for 1399 was a 2GHz,PM965,4g DDR2 667 with 8800M GTS.The hardware info mentioned here is not on their official site.
Mailnly lack 9800MGTS 512MB so doesnt worth it.But has PM45,DDR3 800 RAMs.
Go here.
http://www.gateway.com/systems/series/529598056.php
Again in the product page it has mentioned about 9800M but in the specifications not.
http://www.gateway.com/systems/product/529668123.php

If this is with the 9800M GTS 512,there is nothing beating its price and parts.:D

I have it

I just bought the P 7811FX. I can't say I've tested it yet with anything, bc I have not. I'm merely putting all of my programs on it this morning.

Anyways, if you go to gateway.com they list is msrp as 1399.00. If you choose to purchase it, Gateway links you to Bestbuy.com

Best Buy lists the laptop at 1449.00, a 50.00 difference.

I noted this to my rep at Best Buy and he changed it to the Gateway msrp.

So keep this in mind, if you want to save 50.00!

they have the 8800GTSm in the and the ability to upgrade to any of the T series mobile chips

I am really tempted to buy this laptop, and I will do the $50 mark off.

I'd do it, to be honest. I've been looking around at pre configs, barebones, boutique laptops...this is the best one out there for the money hands down. It has a 9800m gts for god sakes! There aren't many gpu's that are better. Every laptop I was piecing together that had a 9800m gts or better was at least 2k

This laptop is RAM loaded, has a huge FSB, the new Centrino 2, and the HD is 7200 rpm. There pretty much isn't anything you can do to upgrade it - its loaded.

You could drop a faster CPU you in it I suppose..but its not worth it IMO. I think it has a P8400. You could put a P9500 in it, but thats only a .200 or .300 ghz difference and you wouldn't be able to tell the difference performance wise.

Just make sure if you go to best buy, that you tell the guy it lists for less on the website. He/she will probably check (mine did) online. You have to go to gateway.com. Then buy it now or something and they link to best buy, but best buy has it for 50.00 more.

It is easy to pop in another HDD (for I think it has two HDD bays)? Does it need any special brackets and/or adapters...or does it come with it. I might buy another Seagate 200gb 7200rpm drive to raid 0 it or install linux.

I was thinking they put in 2 100gb drives. However, now I'm thinking its just one 7200rpm drive.

I put two 160gb 7200rpm drives in my HP. It was a pretty easy install. However my HP required a special bracket for the HD to stay in place and then a special adapter.

I would pretty much assume the Gateway would require the same thing. Although, it wouldn't be a special Gateway adapter, so much as a SATA adapter if you know what I mean (HD specific, not Brand)

well, the space itself..is that what you mean?

BC basically, there was a drive harness (this is the only way I can describe it) that my fujitsu HD had to snap into, then you but it into the slot in the casing, then there was an adapter to go from the SATA connection on that to HP's interface

Worst case scenario, just buy the HD's you need, open up the machine and see if you need any adapters.

Most laptops do not come with the harness and adapters in the 2nd unused bay...

Yea, there is a hard drive cage that allows it to be securely attached to the chassis.

So i bought the 7811. Its pretty fast.

One question Jon, does your fan throttles up and down a lot? Also, does yours have a CD activity light near the HDD activity light
