LaCie Releases New 730, 724 and 720 LCD Monitors for Professionals

Whether you're a graphics designer, computer professional or just a person like me who wants to know everything, it's good to know about the immediate existence of these new LaCie professional LCD monitors. It's a whole new 700 series of monitors actually, consisting of the 20-inch LaCie 720, 24-inch LaCie 724, and the 30-inch LaCie 730. Time to get to the cool stuff, the whole new line-up is capable of offering ultra-wide gamut of up to 123 percent of Adobe RGB colourspace that furthers for the reachnes of the colors that are being reproduced. Moreover all 700 LaCies have LED backlight that offers just about the perfect screen uniformity and black levels you'd ever want. "The cutting edge technology embedded in LaCie's new 700 series Monitors supports the colour-critical workflow of prepress operators, photographers and graphic designers by enabling the most-precise on-screen proofing yet," said Daniel Mayer, LaCie's Colour Business Unit Manager. All 700 Series Monitors are also bundled with LaCie's blue eye pro Proof Edition calibration software package. This software allows the ability to calibrate and profile displays, verify profile accuracy and maintain display uniformity. The LaCie 720, 724, and 730 monitors are available now from LaCie's specialised dealer network starting at £949. For more information on the monitors, you'll have to wait a little bit because LaCie's site is still not aware that these monitors exist. These look very similar to the Samsung XL range... but more expensive and will no siginificant feature differences.

Personally, I find these Professional TFTs BORING for a "2009 Product". LaCie is late, late, late to market since the professional space is already well covered with identical products.

What is needed FOR PROFESSIONALS is a higher pixel density, so that more pixels, higher DPI, can be shown on the "canvass". IMO, they should get 2560x1600 into a 24" format, not a huge 30" format. That would allow for far superior text reading. Use 120DPI or higher (rather than standard 96DPI) and no longer see jaggies. Plus, when working on photo or CAD, or mapping software, much more fine resolution would be available.

Ah, based on your post Malware, I checked the latest (discount) price of the Samsung XL20 equivalent, and just decided to buy myself 2 more to replace standard syncmaster 204Ts Expect my system specs to change in a weeks time!

PS. Got one of these already (cost me a lot more)... the colour spectrum is really brilliant (lol) compared to a regular TFT. The colours literally "jump off the page". What's also interesting is that digital photos actually look better, and its really important to use a good monitor for editing photos otherwise you risk over-saturating pictures where you are actually compensating for the screen and not actually improving the picture at all (in fact making it worse).

+1 on that. I can't count how many times I've done that, but it's pretty much every time I try to edit an image .

It's the same way with audio monitors and production.

No Lacie is not late to the market. this is just their updated range, with LED backlighting and a few other updated features. They've been in the pro market for ages.

Lacies are generally also more accurate out of the box than most of their counterparts, and they never over use noise inducing overdrive technologies. Sure, you can get the same panel in another monitor, but not necessarily the same quality of controller.

That Samsung 20" isn't even in the same league.

If thy had released something more exciting that diferentiates itself from the comp, not just "me too", then that's NEWS. This is just marketing PR for free. IMO, we are losing the differentiation between "news" and company specifc product lauches.

You are right on multiple counts. I made 2 mistakes here, and I'm really not sure how I did the first one.

First, I somehow confused Lacie and EIZO. I find EIZO products to be everything I mentioned above. I actually have no experience with Lacie's pro lines. I do with EIZO, however, and find those to be better than the Samsung offerings, at least out of the box.

And second, I did confuse the Samsung for some other model.

I prefer the EIZO too, but $ for $, you can usually pick up the Samsung cheaper. e.g. I just picked up 2x XL20 for GBP 380 each. That's less than half price. ie. 2 for 1. No way would you see discounted pricing on an EIZO like that (UNFORTUNATELY!).

PS. The amazon link I gave above now offers them at GBP 475... I grabbed the 2 cheaper ones at GBP 380 two days ago... and seems there is no more stock available from that supplier.

PPS. These come with free calibrators worth GBP 100 each new. I dont need 3 of them! Ebay here we go... maybe I can recover GBP 50
