Apple is working on a new eMac. These machines are meant for schools and budget users. They will most likely feature Intel CPUs as well. Probably a Core Solo with integrated graphics. Gone is the CRT monitor, replaced by a LCD. If such a device is being worked on, expect it to hit around September, as that is when school starts.

I'm not sure if I like that design... think I prefer the iMacs.

They are still too ugly and propriety for a school.

The only mac's at my school are in the photography room, and they belong to the teacher and we arent allowed to touch them...

Most people I see in threads about this are bashing them for being "slow" or "ugly" or other stupid reasons.

These are intended for schools. They are for kids to research on the internet, write papers, maybe watch some stuff online, maybe learn some imovie stuff.

Basic stuff.

They cannot and WILL NOT be able to be as nice looking as a powerbook because it cost too much. They cant be super powered, because these will be purchased in large amounts.

The #1 priority is duability and life span.

I do stuff at a school that has several hundred emacs, and they are DARN NICE. except for the crt weight factor.

before you bash these, LMK and i can maybe manage some pictures of what these kids will do to these things.

They will touch, grab, push on the screens, because its not theirs. they dont care. Our ibooks are constantly loosing keyboard keys because they dont give a rats ass about them. The rubber pads are torn off, the screen has chunks of dead spots from pushing on the lcd. Power cords are shoved into door hinges and broke. Any windows laptop would be torn to bits!

Us admins that use these daily around idiot children are damn thankful for the durability apple has built into these things.

I love the emacs if you can't tell ;)

(if you wanna bash them for not being crap for able to video/photo edit, go buy a fast mac that is designed for it. these are perfectly acceptable when it comes to imovie ;) )

Agreed. eMacs can endure what would destroy most other computers. Hopefully the new ones have guard over the screen, since they will be lcds.

Hopefully also the price goes down if possible, so the schools would save some money.

These ones look like they could be pushed over very easily compared to the CRT eMacs though so probably won't be as good.
