This is the speed at which it opens the first time:

Result: 1.175 second total startup time

Here you can see how fast 0 A.D. opens when I open it after it has already been opened and closed once.

Result: 0.741 second total startup time

This game has nicer graphics than the well-known Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition.
I find it surprising how fast it opens on the cheap hardware combination. I can play it smoothly even with (almost) high end graphics.

Software: PCLinuxOS -- XFCE -- Nvidia proprietary driver -- F2FS (root) file system -- 0 A.D. version: Zhuangzi
Hardware: Intel 12600KF (stock) -- Kingston 6000 MHz CL40 -- GTX 650 1GB -- BIOSTAR B760MZ-E PRO -- Antec P6 -- Xilence XP550 -- ARCTIC i35 -- EVO 850 500GB

The 1.175 second value from the first test is not my best result either.
Often I am close to the point where it takes almost less than one second to open the app a first time.

Often I am close to the point where it takes almost less than one second to open the app a first time.

Today I had tested it right after I booted up the PC, and I hadn't opened any apps before I did this test.

I had not opened this app a single time before getting this result.
Maybe it has to do with the fact that I played the game and changed the settings in the game.
This is an abnormally fast startup time which is probably only possible if you use F2FS.

If I reopen the game I can still obtain slightly better load times of course:

Result: 0.570 second total startup time

I also tested OpenArena's load time and it is consistently between 0.4 s and 0.5 s.
OperArena pretty much always opens in less than half a second if I skip the first movie.

Now it would probably be interesting if I start looking at how fast these games open in EXT4 (PCLinuxOS) and NTFS (windows11).

But this is more something for professional technology websites and software magazines as this is useful for gamers to know how much time they can gain each time during game startup.
And just about every game also loads frequently during the game itself.

This is the speed at which it opens the first time on ROSA Fresh Desktop 12.4 and XFS. I had not opened 0 A.D. a single time before getting this result.

I then tested OpenArena on XFS and it also opens in 0.3xx second the first time I open it.
Red Eclipse also opens faster on XFS (than on F2FS).

These are three different games that all open much faster on XFS than on F2FS.
LibreOffice Writer, on the other hand, does open faster on F2FS than on XFS.

I use different operating systems so the results are not directly comparable in a transparent way.
My overall impression: XFS is much faster for opening games, and F2FS is faster for opening 'standard apps'.

This does seem like something nice to know for gamers, that XFS can load games many times faster than NTFS, Btrfs and many other file systems.

This is when the game has already been opened.
Then it needs only 0.37 second (or sometimes less) to open (on ROSA Linux + XFS).

It would be interesting if a windows user measured how fast 0 A.D. opens on windows11.
