The N2200 is an entry level dual bay NAS. It has a fairly long list of features without making it overly complex to configure, plus it comes at a low price. Since Thecus seems confident about the N2200 we took a closer look at it to see if this is justified.

nice review. the transfer rate looks pretty good. despite its shortcomings, do you think it would make a good media server?

It can send basically anything fast enough, so yes. You do need another device to do the actual playing, the M3800 might be a better choice in this case. I haven't even seen it though, let alone touched and played with it (that sounds wrong). http://www.thecus.com/products_over.php?cid=23&pid=55&set_language=english#

And darksaber reviewed the QNAP NMP-1000 which I did see last year and looked nice. Though I am not sure what the pricing of either is (too lazy to actually look). If you're really looking for a media player it might be worth it to look into those.
