ASUS Intros ''All Round'' Wireless Mouse with Touch Surface

No, it's not a mini-disc music player, it's not a powder compact either, but a new wireless mouse by ASUS, which intends to take on Apple's Magic Mouse, which gives users a touch surface apart from being a pointing device. ASUS' WD-XL, as it's called, sports a perfectly round shape, with a slight tilt when placed on its tracking surface. One of its lead designers is Danish design house David Lewis, which also worked on ASUS' NX90 designer notebook.

Measuring 80 (L) x 80 (W) x 31.5 (H), its top holds a circular touch surface with a few feather-touch media keys, with two mouse buttons to its north. As a pointing device, the WD-XL has a 1200 dpi laser sensor. It connects to the PC over a common 2.4 GHz RF wireless connection. The touch surface gives users access to several touch-based UI features of Windows 7, without having to crane your arms to a touchscreen display. It is said to be priced at US $79. The company pitches this product as an "All Round Mouse Perfection".

Although I agree, could fot HTPC, I can imagine this being brilliant for sitting in bed or on a sofa chilling out watching films/listening to music.

It's a mouse and a touch-pad. You can hold and move that thing over a mousepad to use just like a mouse.

I could see someone trying to move it around a mousepad but accidently touch the touchpad, messing up the cursor movement.

People are seriously following in the artsy direction... I've used a Magic Mouse, while the touch part is cool, I find a scroll wheel easier to use and much more responsive, and the magic mouse has a very low height which gives no palm support, very uncomfortable. It seems that they are trying to sell an idea, clean/minimalist/whitespace, rather than something comfortable and really useful.

and I don't believe that the touch surface works like a touch pad like on a notebook.
It it just a media keys with soft touch feature.

And where's is the two button? maybe the black one is the left and right click? front for left click, back for right click

Anyway, no real use unless you're trying to "break the mold" in the pc world. Even then, you can do a lot better.

i have an HTPC idea, how about something like a touchpad, like galaxy tab, that acts as a remote, kinda like mirroring whats on your big screen basically, without actually being a tablet, instead a remote and wireless monitor of sorts...i guess the htpc would have to send the video signal wirelessly to it, but the point would be that you would have real touchscreen control from your htpc and you wouldnt have to look directly at the TV to see what your doing of course, you could websurf..etc easier too, so in a way its kinda like having a more powerful Ipad with your htpc being the workforce.

Yeah a real nightmare then there is that crazy price. I think i'll stick with my V220's worked perfectly for me to about 5 - 6 feet.
