12700K will be the fastest but the difference is subtle overall.

Either 12700K (if you want more speed) or 14500 (if you want more power efficiency).

Both processors double the wattage at full loads over the 12500T.

12700K is 190w
14500 is 154w
Edit, same speed these two. 5ghz
Maybe the 14500 would be suitable for the cooling?

The 12700K is a great product. My 12900KS has no problems with workloads, its not much different. Undervolt and underclock it slightly and you will have no issues with temperatures or wattage with no real world impact to performance.

If you were looking at going with faster ddr5 I'd say 14500, but sticking with DDR4, the 12700k will probably be better. That said, it will be easier to cool the 14500, which might put it back in front anyway because the 12700k may throttle with your cooler.

I would check the availability of 12600KF, in my country i can get it for less than 140 dollars. It is an absolute victory.

Keep in mind both the i5-13500 and the i5-14500 are still 12th gen parts (1.25MB L3/core), so the choice here, if you are unable to buy a i5-13600K or i5-14600K, is the i7-12700K. Non K also works if you won't overclock and will use a B series motherboard.

I still wouldn't buy one as the CPUs are defective and the BIOS workaround is just a fix to prevent them failing now. Who knows how long that'll last in long use

No, this is not the case. BIOS updates were issued for the incorrect voltage requests that were being sent due to microcode bug and that is what was killing chips left and right. Updated BIOSes are safe and stable.

The oxidation issue has no workaround, but it only affected the first batch coming from a very specific fab, basically if your CPU is a 13th KS or 14th Gen, there's practically no risk at all from the oxidation problem occurring. So only late 2022, perhaps early 2023 chips are affected. That + warranty was extended to 5 years for all new and existing chips out there, Intel is replacing or refunding these no questions asked, so there are no concerns with reliability there.

Other than the most concerning one. If your CPU died it'll take ages until the replacement kicks in. This leads to overspending by buying more CPUs for that matter. Not entirely convenient if you depend on your machine.

But I guess virtually all bad CPUs have died by this point.

Voted 12700K. Used to have one. Good CPU with all 8 P-cores.

that is what was killing chips

I don't even think it was killing them, just degrading them to the extent they couldn't run at their specific voltage curves. Just keep them at a sane voltage and all should be good. Original uefi's were pushing these CPUs to 1.55v+. Nasty.

Even AMD have their own issues atm: Over 100 Dead Ryzen 7 9800X3D Cases Have Been Reported Till Now, Mostly On ASRock Motherboards; In Some Cases, The CPU Didn't Even Run For An Hour

Depending on the local marketplace options, 14600 would also be a newer part and be only a little slower than 14600k.

The 14600K is also worth a look, yes. (In Germany it's cheaper than both 14500 and 13600K.) L2 cache increase is nice.

If you fully believe that. I would still avoid chips that can get dangerously close to 6 GHz, but those aren't the subject of this discussion anyway. For myself I'd probably even pick a 14700/K right now, but keep the clock limited to 5.3 - 5.4 GHz.

I just run my 13900KS at stock (at least until I do my rebuild once the 5090 arrives), NH-D15S can't cope with the load. Does hit 6 GHz every now and then, but not all the time.

All of these are Alder Lake CPUs despite 13th gen branding, so get the one that's cheapest, or the 12700K, which can OC.
