MOSAID Technologies Inc. (TSX:MSD) today announced that it has initiated patent infringement litigation against NVIDIA Corporation, Freescale Semiconductor, Inc. and Interphase Corporation. The suit was filed on April 7, 2011 in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Texas, Tyler Division.

In its complaint, MOSAID asserts that NVIDIA, Freescale and Interphase have infringed, and continue to infringe certain patents related primarily to power management techniques, and microprocessor architecture. The accused devices include graphics processors, application processors, microcontrollers, and system-on-chip devices. These microcomponents products are used in mobile, automotive, consumer and communications applications.

"Unfortunately, it is increasingly clear that many companies now require litigation in order to seriously consider taking a license in a timely manner, despite our continued desire to resolve patent infringement disputes through licensing discussions," said John Lindgren, President and CEO, MOSAID. "In such circumstances, we are prepared to litigate in order to defend our intellectual property rights."

Even their website screams patent troll. Very little talk of technologies and product. Mostly talk about licensing and patents.

Yep, you're right, it sounds a lot like Rambus. 1 or 2 legit products backed by numerous ridiculously vague patents, which they want to cash in on.

I hate patent trolls.

I agree!

Still, those that take advantage of other company's patents because they're big, can afford it, or whatever other reason they have are pretty high on my hate list as well.

I wish they would just hurry up and fix the giant failure that is the Patent System, so companies could actually work on developing revolutionary products without worring about having to license 200 different vague pieces of technology.

Nothing can be worse than the fact that Apple essentially patented a Law of Nature which essentially was an industry standard practice for several years before hand, I think it was literally; Reducing Voltage For The Sake of Using Less Power in a Micro Processor.

You should only be able to patent a method of achieving something not the achievement

we all pay for these trolls whether they win or loose in court. just more shits abusing the system for their own greed. i'm quite certain the patent system is not the only system disgustingly out of order, and the fixes will involve the little guy getting the shaft in one form or another.
