PC Power & Cooling Silencer MK III 600 W

As technology advances necessarily some old designs and beliefs are left behind. Without any doubt in today’s highly competitive market only the companies who decide to adapt to the current user demands and needs will see their sales increasing. Apparently this is what PC Power & Cooling did with their new Silencer MK III PSUs in which the abandoned the non modular design and adopted a semi modular one.

I like this unit. It took what was already a good unit/platform (S12 620) and put a lipstick on it. Will be suggesting this as a mid-low end unit. It looks slick, and the only issues with it are 2 PCI-E cables and the lack of crossload performance, which doesn't matter much. After all, that's to be expected on group regulation.

I expected more from PCP&C, but since OCZ seems to have more say than ever in what they produce we can't have units like the Silencer MkI 760 and 910W anymore. They're much better than this.

Yup, this unit sucks and contradicts every thing that PC&Power are COUGH i mean were. Shity heatsinks that thing has.

The Silencer 760 and 910 were based on tweaked S12D and M12D platforms. They're a high-end units. This is a budget S12II, and is superior to the Sirtec that is MK2. It's an improvement over what was suggested for low watt, and is a solid unit like the older Silencer 500's.

It doesn't. You're falling for their old page of myths mentioning only 80mm fans are good, and that 120mm fans cause the PSU to overheat and shutdown. lol. Yeah, they cool better, but this is a low watt PSU. It doesn't need dual 80mm's in push-pull. It has a pair of heatsinks with a curve to the top, like the Silencer 500's. They're sufficient since the fast ADDA 120mm pushes more CFM than a 80mm.

"PC P&C maintained, for a long time, a page called "Power Supply Myths". This page was aptly named for reasons PC P&C did not intend. Rather than debunking myths, this page actually fostered a good many myths and caused a great deal of headache for people like myself who know more about power supplies than most people know about molecular biology. These myths were as follows:

120mm fans are bad. Apparently having one large, quiet 120mm top fan instead of a single loud 80mm back fan is bad because the fan has to spin faster when the PSU is hot because of something and the other thing and global warming and STUFF. Thankfully this one never really took off either.

Because of some poor business decisions (like deciding to only sell noisy PSUs with fixed cables) PC P&C lost a great deal of money and got bought by OCZ in May, 2007."
