Glad they finally replaced the old group regulated unit like I have. Even happier it is fully modular might have to look into one if I don't end up going with a bigger case for my mini-itx build.

I plan on using one of these my current system load is around 400W people are saying a 450w PSU isn't enough for a 4770K and a GTX 780 TI ?

If you don't overclock I think it will suffice. However this PSU doesn't have two 6+2 pin PCIe connectors but one 6+2 pin and one 6 pin PCIe so if you have a Ti that requires 2x 6+2 pin you will have to use an adapter.

Well i run a 4.4Ghz OC and i never see the Watts go over 400, I only have a ACX version so its only got the standard PCI-e Connectors probably going to use custom cables so it doesn't really matter. As long as this PSU can handle 400w for long hours I'm happy?

DONT CHEAP OUT ON THE PSU!.


you are running a thousand dollars worth of cpu and gpu (4770k (350$) 780ti (700$))...
while the st45f-g is not cheap, you should be using a seasonic x series fanless !... (not because the st45f-g is bad, but because it is not suited for your application)

get a seasonic x-series!. or any platinum "plated" or rated power supply...

450w would be enough provided you don't have a ton of HDDs but you'd be cutting close in a full load scenario. Don't forget that PSUs lose some of their power delivery capacity over time (capacitor aging).

If you use it moderately I suppose you'd be fine for a couple of years. If anything goes awry you could dial back the overclock a little.

so, i just bought the st45f-g (because in my node304 case with the full size seasonic takes up to much room)
So, my 4330/gtx680amp! under 3thread prime95/ full screen furmark ( 1920x1080 asus 120hz vg278h) uses 318watts...

but because the gtx780ti is about 90 watts more at maximum than the gtx680,

using an 450 watt PSU, is cutting it close. so close that at a prime95/furmarked system you will be maximg out the PSU... and because it is rated for full power at 40'c, you are "playing with fire/testing the OTC" if the psu is in the path of exhaust heat.

Furmark is coded in OpenGL so it doesn't task the hardware logic at its fullest... in my experience Crisys 2 tasks the hardware more (lots of tessellation and DX11 effects). I've had many Furmark stable overclocks crashing on Crysis 2.

Also, remember that the 130w you speak of are shared among the 4 voltages. I'd say that you'd have about 80w of breathing room on the 12v rail. If you don't go crazy on the overclock and keep the extra hardware on check you'll be fine.


I have the previous version of this PSU (450w 80+ Bronze, non-modular) and it's sweet, you won't be dissapointed.

Like I said 398w on full load cpu and gpu and I cant have loads of hhds only supports 1 hhd and two ssds with my setup.

I own a 4770k which I'd like to be clocked at 4.2ghz hopefully ( Lian LI PC-TU100B) thus I have to use a sfx GPU and psu.
So will this 450w gold power supply hold up a 4770k 4.2ghz, 1-2ssd(they only draw 1w each so..) 2x8GB avexir core series ram and a GTX 760 mini (140w power draw, only 1x8pin connector required)
I will mainly do gaming, and I'd like to know how much will such a system consume considering 4770k 4.4ghz and 780ti are 397w ?

and an overclocked 4770k is using about 120 watts so it is really about 500 max.
the maximum power draw of your system should be less than the max rating of your PSU.

so you will be fine if you only OC your 4770k on stock volts, with a 780ti... 40 watts idle + 89 cpu + 328GPU (max) is 458... you might be "breaking bad" depending on the model of gtx780ti though.

but beware of the "dark desire to overclock" lol when you use a power supply at its limits...

(BTW, "litecoin mining on your GPU is the same power draw as running FURMARK... and the gpu makers called furmark a power virus!... i wonder what AMD thinks about litecoin mining, since they have jacked up the graphics cards price 50% from the "release" pricing (look at techpowerups "listed pricing" in reviews of amd cards and compare to newegg's prices)

No a 4770k @ 4.4ghz and 780ti does pull around 400w doesn't matter what you say i have a watt meter on my rig. This power supply can hand a OC fine just make sure the PSU gets enough air as the unit can get warm, I'm waiting for the 600w unit that comes out soon.
