From the workplace to home life and everywhere in between, Plantronics (NYSE: PLT) knows that one of the biggest risks to the performance of electronic devices is exposure to moisture - including rain, humidity, sweat and accidental spills. Plantronics, along with P2i, the world leader in liquid repellent nano-coating technology, today announced an exclusive partnership where P2i's nano-coating technology will be used on select Plantronics devices causing liquid to simply bead up and run off the headset instead of permeating electrical components potentially leading to corrosion damage.
The invisible P2i coating, originally designed to treat soldiers' uniforms as protection from environmental and chemical hazards, has a thickness equivalent to one thousandth of a human hair and does not change the look or feel of the Plantronics product. Its ultra-thin size means it also does not affect electrical conductivity, so the entire product, inside and out, can be treated. Coating every surface of the product adds significant protection against damage from moisture. The new award-winning Voyager Legend and BackBeat GO headsets, including the soon to be released white BackBeat GO headset, include P2i's nano-coating.
"For an active person always on the go, moisture shouldn't alter the performance of their headset. As experts in wearable technology, Plantronics recognizes that whatever the environment, our customers expect their headsets to operate round the clock. P2i's nano-coating allows us to take our products one step further, providing industry leading moisture protection," said Tanguy Leborgne, vice president of consumer solutions at Plantronics.
Dr. Stephen Coulson, chief technical officer at P2i said, "Already benefiting millions of smartphones and tablets, we are very excited to be working with Plantronics. The recognition by such a prestigious brand really validates the benefits achieved with our revolutionary technology."
CTIA attendees can see the latest Plantronics products with P2i's nano-coating technology, including the new Voyager Legend and BackBeat GO headsets, at Pepcom's MobileFocus on October 9th from 7:00 - 10:00 pm PT at the Manchester Grand Hyatt hotel near the San Diego convention center.
