NZXT has evolved the Phantom into the next generation chassis. Bigger, more elaborate, plenty of new features and a higher price tag are some of what sets the Phantom 820 apart from its older brethren. Is this big case a true evolution into something great or a mere mutation with no place to be?

but the Phantom 820 does, ultimately, impresses.
Just "impress", or remove the "does"

Especially the multi-color LEDs, embedded not only into the exterior design of the chassis, but also within the case itself, make the case pop
No.

No.

Thank you Vancha.

That was my fault.

I forgot to correct "impresses" after rewording that sentence. "Pop" does sound odd. I will replace "...make the case pop" with "...make the case stick out".

Meh its just a Switch 810 with a Phantom shell with led's. It is nice that you can do so many colors with the leds, but i still like the Switch more.

Hopefully they fixed the fan controller. About 6 months ago I helped a friend put together a machine with a Phantom 410. The built in fan controller would make the fans sound unruly on the low setting. Something about the voltage supplied was making them whine like crazy. Medium and high were fine but if you have dogs or sensitive hearing the low setting was out of the question.

What I like since I like water cooling all my computers is the fact there is room on the bottom and the top for a rad. Now the difference being that there is actually room at the top for a rad and fans as compared to other cases that 'say' you can add a rad at the top but to get fans on are next to impossible since there is no room. You can see clearly that there is enough room for let's say a GTX rad at the top plus fan space in between the bars. Very very nice design that I respect very much. I am considering buying this case for another build.

A very impressive offering! If only NZXT made a min-itx version of this case.

Great review as always DS. Let me address some of the issues you pointed out. A friend of mine just got the new Phantom and there are a couple of issues. The screws you mentioned for the 2.5" SSD/HDD are still too short. Apparently NZXT wasn't able to replace them in the retail ones that went out. I love my Switch 810 so I held off on getting it for that reason as well as the issue (be it confusing) of hooking up the fan controller and LED lights as the manual isn't to succinct in describing exactly how to do it. Other than that, I wish they would make the CPU plane cut out bigger and square so both Intel AND AMD can install the coolers without issue. :)

I just bought this case with my new build today, no photos yet though since I'm still using a temporary motherboard and no cpu cooling lol. Loving it though I had the choice between this one and the switch but this one had the fan controllers, LED thingies and 6 usb ports at the front and a card reader which I use so it was a no brainer.

Also the fan controller works well, you can lower it to the point the fans don't spin at all.

@Darksaber, you said five 120mm fan can be installed on the roof. Does that mean a 480mm radiator can be installed there?
