DTS, Inc. (Nasdaq: DTSI), a leader in high-definition audio solutions, today announced that it has entered into an agreement with ASUSTEK COMPUTER, INC (TSE: 2347), a top global producer of computers and consumer technology, to license its DTS Play-Fi technology for integration within ASUS' line-up of Windows-based products. Already a leader in the development and manufacturing of Windows-based computing solutions, ASUS will now offer integrated whole-home Wi-Fi audio streaming as part of its product portfolio. With DTS Play-Fi technology, ASUS products will enable consumers to stream lossless, high-quality audio from almost any audio source on a PC to their DTS Play-Fi-enabled home audio systems over a standard Wi-Fi network. It also gives users full control of the home speaker network-allowing users to set up, link, and stream audio to one speaker system or multiple speaker systems throughout the home at once.

"Our goal with DTS Play-Fi is to partner with global brands to make whole-home wireless audio streaming a standard feature that consumers everywhere can enjoy, especially now with the proliferation of online and cloud-based music choices available on PCs and tablets," said Brian Towne, executive vice president and chief operating officer, DTS. "ASUS' market position and technology leadership are well established, and we could not be more pleased to have them as a licensee in the Windows PC arena, to extend the music listening experience from its powerful PC platforms into the home with DTS Play-Fi technology."

"ASUS strives to bring our customers differentiated solutions with features that provide meaningful benefits," said Joe Hsieh, ASUS corporate vice president and general manager of motherboard and desktop system business unit. "With music becoming increasingly accessible from a variety of devices, it made sense for us to find a way to connect ASUS products directly with the home entertainment environment, and DTS Play-Fi technology fits very well for us strategically. Together, we are giving consumers the option to stream music from any source they like, right from their ASUS-powered PC to any Play-Fi audio system within their home over a Wi-Fi network."

DTS Play-Fi for Windows enables the delivery of Hi-Fi home audio over standard Wi-Fi networks directly from a PC using a software driver. The DTS Play-Fi connected ASUS product lines will be fully interoperable with other DTS Play-Fi enabled products.

The benefits of DTS Play-Fi for Windows include:
  • Quality Sound Experience-DTS Play-Fi is able to wirelessly transmit up to high-definition "lossless" audio, with no impact on sound quality, unlike Bluetooth, which degrades sound quality via file compression
  • Multi-Room Listening Experience-Connect up to eight different audio systems to one network and enjoy music and audio in every room of your home or office, perfectly synchronized with no lag. Or, stream different songs to different rooms via different Play-Fi-enabled PCs or devices
  • Connectivity Range-Unlike Bluetooth, DTS Play-Fi-enabled PCs and devices connect wirelessly to playback systems via a standard wireless home network, enabling DTS Play-Fi connectivity anywhere within the home
  • Stream Anything, Control Everything-Simple applet allows users to choose which audio streams to send to their DTS Play-Fi-enabled speakers: hear music on the stereo, and email notices locally. Stream from cloud services, YouTube, Internet radio, local files, or connected media servers. Set-up, link and control all of the speakers on the network from the same streamlined interface
