Acer Announces Availability of New 29-inch and 27-inch IPS Monitors

Acer announced a pair of new large IPS monitors, the 29-inch B296CL, and the 27-inch B276HUL (pictured in that order). The B296CL is an ultra-widescreen monitor with 21:9 aspect ratio, native resolution of 2560 x 1080 pixels, while the B276HUL is a smaller 16:9 screen but features more pixels, with its native resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels. Both displays offer 178-degree viewing angles, dynamic mega-contrast, 8 ms response times, energy efficient LED backlighting that offers up to 68 percent energy savings, and display inputs that include dual-link DVI, DisplayPort, and HDMI. Interestingly, both are priced the same, at US $599.99.

Nice on both counts,......

I kind of expect to see a ~$550 street price since thats about what I have been seeing lately for both classes of monitor these fit into. Maybe even a little less on sale.

Just check the small vertical size of that 29" monitor...Why is nobody making those to at least the vertical size of a standard wide 24 or 27 incher?

If you're talking about resolution then increasing the resolution beyond 2560 x 1080 but maintaining the 21:9 ratio on these 29" monitors would likely increase the price sharply,....forcing quasi 4K monitor prices in the thousands of dollars range.

there are no Korean knockoffs of these monitors with this ratio as a cheaper alternative either.

How much are you willing to spend?

If its a lot, say around ~$3000 to ~$3500 USD or so I'm guessing you are in the minority. That's a niche market within a niche market. For that kind of money I would just buy a ~32" 4K 3840x2160 monitor and be done with it despite the fact that I find the 21:9 ratio intriguing.

Seeing as the price is equal it would be opp to personal taste with these monitors. As for the 4K screens, if i could get one of those here in Norway for 3000 USD it could be interesting, but its priced at 5000 USD (30000 NOK).

To be honest, considering there are a lot of 27" out there with only 1080p, I wouldn't mind having a 21:9 monitor with a 32" or 34" diagonal (aprox. same vertical size as a 27" 16:9), for a little more price than a standard 27 incher. Again, the 29" is to damn small for that monitor and price also.
