I-O Data rolled out the AD221PEB, a 21.5-inch monitor that's ready for PoE (power over Ethernet), letting you use a common plug for network connectivity, and enough power to meet its under-60 Watt draw. PoE is gaining popularity in enterprise environments, where companies are deploying large AC-to-DC power supply to power several computers, in comparison to fitting each one with a PSU of its own, thereby cumulatively increasing switching efficiency, by directly supplying DC power, and using DC-to-DC switching on the clients' ends. The sub-60W power draws of modern flat-screen monitors, and usually sub-100W power draws of business desktops are driving the adoption of PoE.

The AD221PEB, as a monitor, offers a display resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels, it uses a TFT LCD panel with viewing angles of 160°/170°. Other vitals include 5 ms response time, 250 cd/m² maximum brightness, and dynamic mega-contrast. Measuring 507 mm x 178 mm x 390 mm (WxDxH), the display weighs about 3.5 kg. Display inputs include DVI, and D-Sub. The monitor integrates 2W stereo speakers, which take input from a common 3.5 mm stereo jack. Its stand offers basic tilt adjustments. Slated for early December, the I-O Data AD221PEB is expected to be priced in Japan at ¥47,800.
