Acer to Release the CB280HK 28-Inch UHD Monitor

Acer will soon be throwing its hat into the 4K ring by rolling out a 28-inch monitor with a native resolution of 3840 x 2160 pixels. Acer's upcoming UHD display is called CB280HK and features a TN panel, an LED backlight, a 2 ms response time, a 1000:1 contrast ratio, a stand allowing tilt, pivot, swivel and height adjustment, and DVI, HDMI, DisplayPort and mini DisplayPort connectivity.

The Acer CB280HK can be found listed on pre-order with a price tag of 499 Euro.

Not sure that price is all that great,.....

599 Euro is about $675 USD. One can buy the Asus PB287Q for about $650 USD now. Also the Samsung U28D590D goes for as little as ~$599 USD with the same screen (albeit without the features of the other two like VESA mount and adjustable stand).

EU prices incl. sales tax which is typically around 20% in most countries.

Take off the tax, EUR 499 is EUR 415. Convert to dollars at 1.352568 and that makes $562 before sales taxes. So while I'm not keen on this TN monitor, the price is competitive to your examples.

Perhaps but not necessarily,....

Taxes don't apply for US purchases if the vendor doesn't have a presence in the given state (ie a store for example). So its not unheard of for online US purchases to have no tax and even no shipping costs. So some times $599 USD is actually $599 USD out the gate.

I get your meaning though,......

Still, if all else is equivalent there is still the availability issue. Why wait for what Acer can not provide now for what Asus (for example) can. Especially so if there is no significant price difference,....? Acer has improved in quality but not to the point I would snub Asus, Lenovo, Samsung and so on just to wait for their products.
