I recently switched my system from a corsair AX1600i ( a great power supply) to a Hela 2050R, because I needed the extra power for my relatively small . medium form facto pc.

It did require plugging the Hela 2050R into a 240v outlet, but it seems to be working really well.

I have found it to be extremally quiet as in "0 db" 95% of the time.

but so was the Ax1600i.

Still, for $45 less than the Corsair AX1600i its tough to beat. The downside is make sure you plug it into a 240v outlet. In a regular outlet in the US you only get 1659w out of the Hela.

Why shouldn't it.

~because of factors in consideration:

How noisy would it be?
How well would it work if plugged into a regular outlet?
Is it stable?
Do the GPU connectors really provide 600w each?
Is it single rail?
etc etc

turned out it its really good across the board

Bought one as well to power my next project:

While it may seem a tad overkill atm, with the way things are going, it will seem under-powered in a few short years....unless something comes along that can solve the excessive power requirements of upcoming components.....

I've thinking of looking for/building a smallish nuke reactor or even maybe a portable warp core for my next uber-mega-sized project, but that's still a few years out, hahahaha D:

These are server boards and as such they require enough airflow in the right direction over the VRMs and memory sticks, have you considered that?

I think they are too poor for some extra airflow... :D

Airflow is fine, no hotspots, did the thermal imaging check at idle and under load

ebb when I hammer both GPUs at once, seldom see more than 51C while at idle they hover at 29C

Room is normally somewhere between 69-71 F
CPUs at idle are 28C, under medium load about 37C (body temperature) and under full load, all cores, around 49-51C

the motherboard fan curves are custom and work well, where the fans spend idle CPU time at 450rpms, medium load is 600-750rpm and heavy load can range from 750rpm up (140mm 4x own fans)

the 5 nvme express , clx drives are cooled by two hidden 92mm own fans that are silent

I checked around, and folks with water oolong setups can’t get near the low temps of my air cooled rig, I put a lot of effort in to get there

even my video cards are inverted as they blow air away from the motherboard and pulling cool air in when the fans are not at idle - that was a deliberate design consideration

also I added copper heatsink to most voltage regulators and any spot that I thought was too warm

result is a stable cool running rig

power supply does not kick the fan on 95+% of the time.

While I know 69-71F may be cool for a room for most folks, it’s how we like it in the house

With a power house like that you better join the TPU folding team, crunching, with that system can make a difference and have the team climbing the ranks on the leaderboard.

Just a silly question, I assume it's very obviously you didn't build it for gaming. For what purpose do you need soo much computing power and extreme storage capacity?

I would shove all that into an EIA 4U rackmount chassis which can be equipped with more fans if needed or even refrigerated cooling.
The rack has room for some NAS boxes too to handle media and backups etc

Not really, that would mean people would have to start rewiring their homes (with all that entails, including physically replace/rebuild the centrals for incoming power). Also note that the PSU runs fanless 95% of the time, meaning a what, 500-600W power draw on avarage? I'm assuming the 2kW is for transients and burst loads.

@venturi WHat do you do with this, and what is the power draw?

Same, I have solar for the sole purpose of running my AC at 71F not sure how anyone survives temps higher than that lol. Maybe it's a side effect of working in a hospital for over 20 years where they keep in 68F +/- 2 degrees.

@venturi WHat do you do with this, and what is the power draw?
Its my personal PC, so yes it does gaming (amazingly well) emails, writing, surfing etc. However, its special purpose is for convolutional neural networks and reconstruction algorithms in the K space, as well as predictive analytics. …..like what most folks use their PC for.

Power draw? I'm not sure how to measure that with this power supply. However, when I was using the corsair ax1600i it had a utility with it and it would show most of the time less than 900w even when gaming, but if I launch certain algorithms that make use of the full dual GPUs and all CPU cores, and most of the ram, it would sometimes get past 1500w. Which, inspired me to look around. So I settled on the Hela 2050w. When the 2500w version comes out in 2 moths, I will probably move to that.

years ago I became very aware of power needs when some apps/algorithms would max out my 4x Titan V rig. Worked a lot on early projects in CNN and nvidia

Earlier PC build, same model case,....I got used to modifying P1 and P3 cases, this one required a custom plate. First use of a corsair 1600w psu

Had too many issues with the evga 1500 and enermax was unstable.

Muh, turn off everything else in the house for a few minutes and see what the utility energy meter tells you.

Awesome "take my money" rig, I mean we all could if we had deeper pockets, but there's no way in hell however those 4090's are 51c at load, if that's the case they aren't getting a load like gaming on them 100% would put on them with your workloads, I still would though :p
