not buying new. thats not an option . was looking at these 2. give your opinion on what im considering not what youd get. I was right there about to get the 6600xt but the guy seemed scammy and the same price is asked for the 2080super

so looking on classifieds I do see a lot of 2080/super/ti selling. curious how the 2080 super can hang today. I dont play higher end games. stray was the only game I played recently. maybe will try flight simulator 2020

the 3060ti is a bit more money used from the other posts but dont know. I dont care for ray tracing at all. im very happy with glitchless 50-60fps and thats all that matters. no shoot racing games. no top games a teen may be interested in.

I do want to learn video editing and I use the pc for image editing in games.

from the heirarchy, https://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/gpu-hierarchy,4388.html

it shows the 3060ti is around 5fps fater but they are asking for around $60 more.

im not about getting the best., never run after buying the newest. I always pickup older gear for a substantial price reduction. even phones, i wait for people to sell their flagships 3 years later and get it for 1/4 price.

were the 2080 super/3060ti used for mining? I dont know much about mining

It’s a potayto-potatoh sorta deal, honestly. They both will be roughly the same cards perf-wise, the 3060Ti maaaay have slightly better legs since it’s a newer architecture. Will also have lower energy consumption, so less heat, but not by a significant margin. I’d pick that, but 60 bucks is a high-ish premium, I admit. What prices are we talking here, specifically?
As for the mining situation - honestly hard to know, during the gold rush anything and everything may have been used. If you can ascertain that the cards are in working order I wouldn’t bother TOO much. Proper miners, not enormous farms, actually took decent care of hardware and it isn’t really too beat up.

Take the 3060Ti over the 2080 you'll get better driver support for newer games and DLSS and ray tracing is also better

3060ti has lower power draw, iirc 2080 S can get to 250w while 3060ti only draws about 200w. It's a little faster too, though not enough to really see the difference irw. Get whatever fits your budget better.

Get the one that is cheaper. Also, which models are available, some of the 2080S are built better due to being flagship at that time.

I've also bought a second hand 3060 Ti back in 2022 September and so far I've had no issues with it.:) 'knocks on wood'
Sadly mine came with the sketchy x005 memories but for now its not showing any problems so maybe mine wasn't from the worst batch. 'This issue wasn't really known at the time so yeh..'

Tho the 60 $ extra is a bit much imo but thats for you to decide if it worths it for you to get the newer card.

The 3060ti's were used for mining, which is why they made the LHR (low hash rate) models. I was happy with my Gainward 3060ti Ghost OC. If the video/image editing stuff you want to use use the features of a more modern architecture that is definitely something to consider.

They're kinda the same with just the 3060ti being 2 years newer.

Not sure if it matters to the op but every 3060ti I worked with overclocked pretty well to almost 3070 levels alternatively you can shave 10% ish of the power off without losing a noticeable amount of perfomance.

If this is a card you plan on keeping a long time it's probably worth the premium if it's just a card that's gonna be replaced in a year or 2 get whatever is cheaper.

Buying used is like playing the lotto have a plan for either option if they go kaput 6-12 months from now.

zotac hahaha. I saw lenovo 1 fan kind too but all the gigabyte guys are snobby with theirs. also important for me is that I can control the fans with MSI afterburner. if I cant no dice. I like to manually run the fans faster and leave it there for a game because I hate the whirring up and down.

$240 for the 2080 S and another guy is asking another $60 on that. TDP IS important to me. so its either pay over time higher fees with 2080s or pay up front for a cheaper total down the line with 3060ti 200w vs 250w.

brother said smell the card to see if something is burnt.

If the 2080 Super is cheaper, buy that. Only go for the 3060 Ti if it's an ASUS TUF model or similar. These cards aren't $60 apart in performance. Worth mentioning perhaps that Ampere's NVDEC is compatible with AV1, however, the encoding capability is identical to Turing's. So up to you to decide if AV1 decoding is a big deal or not. Neither will encode.

I would go for a 2080Ti.
...3060Ti would be an option is the price is right.

If the 2080 was a Ti, 240$ would be a good price for it, the supper is a 180$ to 200$ dollar card. The 3060Ti used is a 275$ card if it is a named OC version. The 3060Ti is the better deal if you can get it 35$ to 25$ less than the 300$ asking price, at the 300$ point, you can get a faster card new like an AMD RX6700XT or the RX6750XT with more V Ram.

Take the 3060Ti, it's more expensive yes but it have newer arch and tech (Resizeable BAR, DLSS, better ray tracing, better performance at AI stuff like Stable Diffusion), lower power consumption, and should last longer.

You say you gonna do video and photo editing, some of those software could run on CUDA, by using newer arch it should be faster.

Not necessarily. The 3060 Ti cut of GA104 and the full TU104 used in the 2080S should have very similar performance In terms of raw compute power, the 2080S should have a slight edge in most situations

And now I realize TPU doesn't look at compute or include any encode/decode videos in their GPU reviews, like they do when they look at CPUs. Bummer.

i would go with what ever is cheaper and less abused. If one was used for something like mining i would avoid it like a plague. If both are within say 10-20$ then probably 3060ti but any more then that its what ever is less.

3060ti seems capable of matching it for 50w less power, take that card, and also a little bit more longevity in driver support.

This is assuming they are at comparable cost. If the price difference is enough to be of significance, go for the cheaper card.

Well, in all fairness, the FLOPS rating of a GPU has not counted for much in recent memory. As for the enc/dec. EposVox on YouTube is a great resource.

What about RTX 3060 (non-Ti) ?

The 3060 is roughly 25% slower than the 3060Ti and it has an almost identical power draw at 200W. The only upside to the 3060 is the extra 4GB VRAM.

As for the price on the 3060Ti, that seems high. Ebay, as of lately, seems to show they're selling for on average around $230 (more or less, depending on the make/model). Whereas the 2080S seem to be going for around $210 (give or take, depending on make/model).

If you're okay with the $300 range and depending on where you are located you may be able to find a new RTX 4060 for about that price. This way you get a card from the latest gen, has 8GB like the 3060Ti card and is only around 10% behind the 3060Ti. It also draws around 130W when gaming, compared to the 200W the 3060Ti can draw.

However, if you want AMD you could look for a new 7600 XT. The 7600XT gives slightly better performance over the 4060, has 16GB VRAM and draws around 200W like the 3060Ti does. Just something to think about.
