Apple's Next 12-inch MacBook Air to Feature USB 3.1 and Core M

Apple's next entry to its pathbreaking ultra-portable notebook, the MacBook Air, will be a new 12-inch screen size version. As with every new MacBook Air release for the past two years, there's talk of a screen resolution jump to "Retina" standards. Apple is preparing other cutting-edge hardware updates.

To begin with, Apple will tap Intel's latest Core M "Broadwell-U" chip, an SoC that combines a dual-core "Broadwell" CPU with graphics, a dual-channel DDR3L IMC, and system agent onto a single chip, with an overall TDP of 15W. Apple is working on a new fanless cooling system for this chip. The other big feature-set upgrade is the USB 3.1 port, which Intel plans to launch with the system agent for its next processor platform. USB 3.1 doubles bandwidth to 10 Gbps, and steps up power-delivery, letting you charge your portable devices faster.

Lenovo is still in the game as is HP... heck HP already has an Envy convertible with the coreM in it.

Mac has cute laptops... but the fact that now rams are soldered on all modells and you cannot upgrade makes look for another options and keep my old macbook pro late 2012 (Core i7, 16GB ram SSD)

PD: I don’t like laptops.. but this one would satisfied me ..

Yeah, I run a 2013 mbpr with a custom built egpu. I had to have the laptop serviced 2 weeks ago and bought an air to use in between. Bootcamp was easy to use and setup, apples uefi client works well enough, if you don't like it you can use rEFInd. I was NOT able to get my egpu (that was plug and play for my mbpr) to play nice with the air.

Besides that I had no complaints.

Edit: Well, the placement of the fn key gets frustrating sometimes. My brain expects control to be the most left key.

One would think anything in the ultrabook / MBA category would go with soldered RAM and the like do to space / size conservation. its the larger ones that aren't supposed to be ultra portable that shouldn't be doing this.
