Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) is expected to become seventh in the iSuppli rankings, rising from fifteenth last year. Preliminary figures suggest that its revenue may have risen by as much as 90%. Intel remains at the top of the list as the number one chip supplier in the world despite a fall in revenue, with overall chip sales by all manufacturers rising 9%.

The analysts reckon AMD's revenues in 2006 will increase to $7.5 billion, up $3.6 billion from $3.9 billion in 2005. This strong growth in chip sales, combined with the acquisition of ATI in October has seen AMD bust its breeches this year.

Hynix have also moved into the top ten rising from eleventh to eighth.
