How would this work if the OS is on the crashed disk?
It sounds like something a marketing person would think up.

That. AIOs have the same problems as laptops but you cannot even move them around and work on them.

If they were thicker it would be a better idea to just get a PC case and that is it, monitor even AIOs are not supposed to look like a PC case with monitor mounted on one side.

AIOs and laptops suffer from the same problem, upgradeability. Laptops can be moved around and that is why they are justifiable but AIOs do not have any advantage against mini PC's or PCs because if you want to add two PCIe slots the AIO will become thicker and nobody wants to have their monitor big and bulky. You may not need to any additional cards but when something in the AIO is broken you cannot exactly fix it by simple removing that component, you have to remove the whole motherboard. That is why PCs are a better choice than AIOs.

If people want something like AIO the best thing is to buy mini PC (which can be less powerful and versatile but AIO aren't meant to be replacement in terms of performance for PCs) and mount it behind a monitor. Some AIOs do not even support video-in!

And of course less custom designs so you could add a new mobo with ease if needed, but you know what it's never going happen.

I like the look of this but i would not buy one due to a fair few reasons.

All-in-One PC can be sold quite easily for the average user, and most of them buy it.

I just hope it will not harm the traditional form factors... I hate All-in-One.

Yes, static + thin is not exactly the perfect solution. Mobile+ thin, well that is a winner.

I didn't mean it would be like a tower/desktop PC, but just a bit thicker so you at least replace the CPU or at least replace parts easily (I mean broken parts, not upgrading GPU's). The advantage they do have is cable clutter, or a lack of cable clutter, and they take up little space on a desk. Many people (at least many people in my life ) have their laptops permanently stationed at the same place, and they take up a lot of space. People don't seem to mind that, but it drives me nuts, especially if you have docking stations at multiple monitors. And that kind of people don't upgrade their machines anyway, and neither do offices. Remember, I talk about machines for avarage users and office use.

The MSI gaming AIO's have pretty good specs, but they are butt ugly. And they are expensive.
