23" 2048x1152 vs 21.5" 1920x1080

First, do you think it it worth it paying 75-90$ more for the 23" 2048x1152 as opposed to a 21.5" 1080p monitor? Second, can I make it so that there is a black surrounding if I play my ps3 on 1080p? Or is the stretching so minimal that the loss of quality isn't important? Will a HD 5850 a bit OCed be enough to play games smoothly at this res?

As someone who owns the 27'' version of that acer monitor (see system specs). I can wholeheartedly recommend it. It really doesn't have any shortcomings (also mine came with built in speakers, not sure if thats a factor for you).

I don't need speakers... might be a plus though...

I haven't come across a game that didn't play well on this monitor. The 4890 does very well at maximum resolution. The only game that I don't play at that resolution is bad company 2, which for me is actually cpu limited right now.

I have very nice PC speakers, but I hooked up my xbox through the hdmi connection and use the monitor speakers that way. the speakers handle most sounds well, but lack bass.

Well, I got mine at just under $400 (and that was on sale), and haven't regretted it. Online reviews seem to agree with me, I haven't found a review that didn't like it.

I haven't used the cheaper monitor, so i can't say how much of a difference there would be.

k, after reading some reviews myself i come up with these weaknesses:

asus (cheaper one): colors may look washed out, not good for viewing in dim areas or at night

acer : good overall and only lacking in grayscale performance. this thing doesn't have led backlighting, which would increase contrast ratio greatly (also the price would go up)

None of them. It would make things to small imo. 1980x1080 is perfect for 24 inchers. That res on a 22 inch is a pain to look at (even with the glasses on), it's even worse on 21.3.

I don't play the ps3 much TBH, and I like playing it on my 1080i/720p 32" ...

This will mostly just be for my comp...

What bothers me the most is if the cost is worth it

Are you going to regret getting the smaller monitor if you do? Are you going to regret getting the bigger monitor if you don't use it to its full potential? I think it is going to be the later. Get the smaller one, save some cash.
