Hmm - judging from the "Finished Looks" you tested with the heat pipes parallel to the DIE. Did you also check the results (temps) when the cooler was rotated 90° if possible (RAM clearance???)? These HDT designs arn't favorites of mine always the issue with orientation.

Despite that nice test and seems to be a really good option for a silent build, as long you don't want to OC to the limits of your chip. Thanks


Edit: Just checked the pics again - low profile RAM and sliding the fan up a bit might work when rotating the cooler.

Very nice looking cooler and very silent, in the best Thermalright tradition.
I'm not convinced by that direct base though, and the heatsink should be offset to provide GPU clearance like Thermalright already does with the Archon IB-E and the Silver Arrow IB-E.

Didnt make a difference in my testing in terms of orientation. This is likely due to the large gaps between the heatpipes. Also due to mainstream intel processors having such low TDPs and TIM under the IHS it just doesn't seem to matter was much as it once did. Now X99 / Ryzen probably would make a slight difference.

I have the original TRUE, I've had it for like 10 years now, on a bunch of different systems and its very reliable.

I believe it is less important on any die with a IHS on top of it. I mean, that is the point of the Integrated Heat Spreader. The IHS is going to heat up from the heat of the die, and the cooler is transferring the heat from the IHS.

True enough orientation can impact core temps by a few degrees. Makes a bigger impact when heat transfer is quick essentially its easier to spot on X99 than Z170/270 etc after all more cores lol. With Intel mainstream the tim being what it is means the orientation really just doesn't matter anymore. As such depending on orientation I have seen differences of 1-2C on say the older 3960x / 4960x but at the same time that can fall within margin of error or be influenced by too much or too little tim etc.

those Thermalright 140mm fans are the real deal - I tested noctuals, all level of bequiet's and I stayed with Thermalrights 300-1300 (no matter color, naming, article and even price - they all are the same) - they are both - more silent at the low end (which is not granted - even with the big brands - some whine and click so much that low speed operation is useless for those, but not Thermalright) and keep silent at comparable higher speeds

I have a Thermalright Shaman on my unlocked (4096 shaders+power limit) R9 Fury Strix and it smokes the Asus Strix cooler in both temperature and noise. I will get a Thermalright Le Grand Macho for my ryzen build. Thermalright makes some top notch stuff.

I have two original True Spirit 140s and I'd wager they do as well or better in cooling than the "Direct". And yeah, their fan clips and cheap vibration pads that won't stay put are a pain in the butt. A lot more fiddly than Noctua's.
