AMD has finally unveiled the curtain off their RX Vega enthusiast gaming hardware. With two versions having 4096 and 3584 next gen compute units, and priced at $499 and $399 respectively, AMD aims to appease the needs of the end user waiting for a single-card solution capable of providing a good gaming experience at WQHD and UHD resolutions. Backed by FreeSync, Enhanced Sync, and new Radeon Software features, we may finally have a contender for NVIDIA's Pascal-based GPUs in the sub-$500 market.

The focus on FreeSync remains and with good reason based those slides.

I wonder what AMD thought when Nvidia introduced the GTX 1080 to the market in May last year...

Good to see some competition coming to the market finally.

Not loving those minimums either, just like they found the only GTX 980 Ti on the planet that didn't score 11 on Steam VR.

I'm very happy to see AMD's efforts reaching a conclusion, finally, a completed product with a ton of logic and resources invested upon, up and ready to duke it out with NVidia's Pascal architecture, I'm hoping Vega delivers a convincing performance edge, in order to skip the correspondent Pascal refresh. All in all, I want this to drive Volta into consumer market and have a real showdown between recently released GPUs.

Ryzen Threadripper has a street sale date already, so I expect samples and reviews for those to be out first. No public information on RX Vega reviews at this point.

Toms Hardware wrote the street date is the 14th, so at most maybe 2 weeks unless the NDA extends to release day.

Yup, that date just got made public a few minutes ago. Reviews should go live then as well.

So you get a $200 discount on a single display that has an MRP of $950... what a deal...
At least for the CPU/mobo combo discount you have some options.

Also, forget about 4k gaming on Vega by the looks of it. My 1070 offers very similar frame rates with a 4k G-Sync display.

Unfortunately the higher frequency comes at a price. Vega, if I am not mistaken, isn't performing the same as a Fiji at the same frequency. I was afraid of this. If it was performing as a Fiji, at 1600Mhz would have been probably in the middle, between 1080 and 1080Ti.

Well, that monitor is a 34" curved one, that is actually cheaper (830$) than Your 27" one (880$).

FX CPUs were also much cheaper than Intel ones, GPUs were never that cheaper. A 400$ starting price is well positioned considering the cost of HBM2, especially when comparing the prices rumored a few days ago (starting from 500-550$ or so).

I m disappointed, and there are more questions than answers. For 14nm, DIE is huge. A lot of bragging with data of no importance. The Dual GPU option is more interested to me, but we do not know if it will be made .
5mp gaming GPU. With the block, it would have only a slot of thickness, which makes it easier. cooling of the components on the motherboard .(Mainly M.2 SSD controller chip). Vertical synchronization kills AMD GPU performance !and with this accent it could get mor sale . nVidia performs tricks that then deliver better results .

Nah it's performing about the same as Fury X clock for clock. This however shouldn't have been a surprise since all the improvements over Fiji split in two areas : compute , there is a fair bit of silicon occupied due to FP16 and all that. And in terms of rendering capabilities there is too much of a fundamental change in the pipeline to extract a lot of performance form this first implementation. What they could have done is get rid of compute and all the hardware scheduling leverage that task to the drivers then add as much shaders as possible and then it would have been significantly more capable in gaming. However they can't afford to make separate designs.

As for higher frequencies GloFo is a huge hamstring in that aspect , they can't do anything about it.

..and people knew the performance was 50% down on Intel's offerings, so were willing to pay the higher prices for the extra performance.

Vega is basically the same performance as a 15mth old Nvidia 1080.

What incentive does someone have to choose a Vega over a 1080 at the same price in late 2017, AMD fan-boys aside?

Given that most of the AIB cards are at least 2-3mths away, Nvidia's new Volta chips will only be a matter of months after that as well.

I just don't see any reason to buy Vega at $500.

$400 would have hoovered up a lot of 1080 sales in the next 6mths and given AMD a chance at hitting Nvidia's market share, that will not happen at $500.

I'll stick with the 1070 in my laptop, Vega wont be coming to laptops. Sucking up that power should be AMD's moto.

More like a $100 discount, because you pay $100 more for the video card. At least that's how I understand it.

Then it's not the smartest choice for a consumer video card, is it? But then again, it depends on what percentage "considerable" translates to.
