Today Synology is unveiling three new additions to our DiskStation lineup: DS118, DS218play, and DS218j. DS118 is the successor of DS116. It features a new 64-bit quad-core CPU and 1GB DDR4 memory and delivers sequential throughput performance at over 113 MB/s reading and 112 MB/s writing. The excellent performance makes DS118 a good backup solution for small office users.
DS118 also supports 4K 10-bit H.265 hardware video transcoding, allowing 4K videos to be instantly converted and played on your TV, smartphone, or other media players that originally do not support Ultra HD formats. DS218play is the successor of DS216play. DS218play is also powered by a new 64-bit quad-core 1.4 GHz processor and 1GB DDR4 memory. It features massive storage capacity for housing your entire multimedia library and more, making it easy for multimedia enthusiasts to maintain complete control over their data. DS218play also reaches similar performance numbers of 112 MB/s reading and 112 MB/s writing; while also supporting real-time single channel 10-bit H.265 4K Ultra HD or single channel full HD video transcoding.
DS218j is the replacement of our best-selling DS216j. With a faster dual-core processor, DS218j delivers sequential throughput at over 113 MB/s reading and 112 MB/s writing, which fully utilizes the bandwidth the 1GbE LAN port. DS218j is designed for home and personal users as a versatile storage server that runs 24/7 with low power consumption.
All three units are available starting today through various online resellers and retailers such as Amazon. With MSRP's of $179.99 for DS118, $229.99 for DS218play, and $169.99 for DS218j, all three new units provide an affordable option to people who want to create their own private cloud.
