Colorful is one of the biggest graphics card manufacturers in Asia. We have on our review test bench today their iGame GTX 1070 Ti Vulcan X TOP, which comes with a large triple-slot, triple-fan cooler. It also includes the idle fan stop feature many people consider essential these days.

I amused to see the funny blob at L2 inductor. Also the cooler scratches the PCB surface, no washers.

I wonder if you don't get nightmares as I do after screwing with HW non stop for few days... currently do have about ZxR design flaws as it's dying again.

650 USD... Colorful are smoking their damn socks, I feel the score should be WAY lower given that ridiculous price.

@W1zzard please PLEASE stop adding "No analog (VGA) support" as a minus to video card reviews, since DVI-A is dead and there's zero chance of it coming back (and DVI as a whole is on life support). Honestly, if anyone buys a new graphics card today and expects to use it with a VGA monitor, it's their problem.

Nice with the quick reviews! Eventhough 1070Ti is kinda meh :/ As mentioned by many; 1070Ti better but perf/dollar after pricereduction on vega56 there is not much argument left besides "NVVAIYou know that NVIDIA have f***ed something up when aftermarketcards are SLOWER than ref. :S Its like the want to push companies towards AMD. Not saying that they will bite right now but if Navi closes the gap even further and NVIDIA continue their restrictionfetish in '18 they are either ending up in a intel-situation where they will have to start paying under the table for the companies to NOT push AMD products instead of NVIDIA. :S

Never mind that, who cares :D ... I like how you managed to read a name of a power stage IC on nvidia's FE card so we can read these https://xdevs.com/doc/xDevs.com/ocg_1080/NTMFD4C85N-D.PDF and look at transfer characteristics vs. temperature and other informative charts ... too bad there's no power stage IC (or hi/lo mosfet) model on other cards reviews :(

You're ignoring the fact that AMD GPUs remain completely uncompetitive on power, heat, and noise. For a lot of people - including myself - those are deal-breakers.

If Navi manages to close that gap, I'll be as happy as anyone. But AMD has been promising better perf/watt for literally years and it ain't happened yet, so colour me skeptical until/unless they actually ship a product that delivers on that promise.

But then you're ignoring what most people focus on: performance pr. dollar. power/noise/heat is for the ref. Call it hypothetic but a undervolted aftermarket 56 with a strix cooler would perform very close to a 1070Ti in heat and noise, and the price is competitive.

While that is true (mostly because 1070 Ti is overpriced right now), ordinary users who are buying on perf/dollar aren't going to know how to undervolt their cards. And most power users don't buy cards to undervolt them, they buy them to overclock them, because if you can get free performance, why not?

It's the difference between buying $400 for guaranteed performance/power/heat/noise levels, and maybe getting a bit more performance on top of that (effectively getting a $450 card)... and paying $400 for a card that might only perform at the speed of a $350 card after I've "fixed" its heat and noise by undervolting it.

That said, I'd be very curious to see a "normalized" perf/power/heat/noise comparison between GTX 1070/1070 Ti and Vega 56. First round could be 1070 overclocked to match stock Vega 56's perf/power/heat/noise, second round could be stock GTX 1070 matched up against underclocked Vega 56.

I think we agree on most points in general. I know that there are many things that need to "fit" for vega 56 to be the clear choice, but a good aftermarket 56 and i'd say vega is justified. In Denmark the price of vega 56 and 1070Ti is the same right now (earlier the vega was way cheaper), but right now the price is more or less equal which weigh towards 1070ti again. at the 50 dollar+ advantage the vega looked more attractive.

I need your advice: the Colorful 1070 Ti Vulcan X has the same price with Colorful 1080 U-Top in my country - which one should I buy? There's no review of the U-Top version but I think it's a low tier model with same base clock as the reference card. Thanks.

Really? I'm a little bit worried that the Colorful 1080 Utop is a low-tier card (maybe made by cheap material) and won't be as stable as the 1070 Ti VulcanX. Also maybe it can have high temperature and can ruin the card in long run. Or... am I worried too much :(

The 1080 U-Top looks like a very well-built card, not sure why you would think otherwise. Get it, enjoy it, be happy.

This video (
) reviewed an X-Top version (which is higher tier with more heatpipe than U-Top ver) in open-space, but the temp rises to 76C in only 2 mins, while fan noise is around 50db at 55% speed. Putting it in a case and I think temp will rise 5-10C more @@ This guy also did a review with Colorful 1070 XTop (
) and got temp at around 80C... so not sure how worse it is with U-top ver :|

This is the last generation I'm doing it for. It's there for less tech-savvy people, I know that you know

May I have your advice as well. Thanks.
