The AG-850M is made by Solytech and belongs to Apextechusa's new Apexgaming PSU line. It has a capacity of 850W, a fully modular cable design, and is backed by a ten-year warranty. On paper, everything looks good; however, in real life, things are not always at their best.

This power supply looks to be perfect to pair with a reference R9 290x and delta fans to ensure that everyone knows when you are using your PC

Just get Seasonic Focus Gold for absolutely zero worries.

Crmaris, just noting appreciation for the table on page 4 of components & topology. Review is good as usual. I've seen new Suscon & Elite electrolytics with mediocre ripple suppression, yet test in-spec for capacitance & ESR.

That was an interesting review. Sorry to be nitpicking, but in the sentence "It has a capacity of 850W ", isn't it preferable to talk about power throuput rather than capacity, as this word is usually associated with some other measurement unit ?

Why would anyone pay good money for this POS when pretty much any other option is better?

"Electrolytics: 14x Su'scon (Chinese, 105°C), 5x Elite (Chinese, 105 °C) "

Yeeaaah.. About the crappiest caps what a PSU can have.

LOL... sad thing is you see folks do it all the time .

need to understand the PSU in my opinion is the hart and life blood of any build and I prefer the better build platforms . it tends to save a lot of grief like less chance of stability issues and shutdowns , ect.... sure I went cheap and what ever back when I was young and dumb [ I've got over the young part but the dumb may still be in ? ]

anyway I learned my lesson with them psu units that could be just a flashbang followed by a smoke screen in my case instead of in the game I'm playing .. just stick with the trusted name branded quality platforms [all jap components ] , and put your mind and build at ease

I prefer extreme good build quality, but dont bash chinese caps. This is not a PSU which belongs in the 20$ category.

They made a 107% load and the PSU did not pop in the test, lol. So it's capable of delivery what is advertised. That is what matters.

what I like is a guy at a forum with issues and lists a 350$ CPu 300$ motherboard 600$ gpu /gpu's ect.. and shows a 38 - 50 $ maybe 2ed tier psu at best . if I was needing something to slap in a HP or something to get it going, maybe . for mt primary gaming rig [or anything I need to use reliability wise I try to choose the best build quality psu . then it falls under ''buy smart and buy once '' its not to say you can get an lemon even with what you or they claim is the better out there , but I think you sure reduce your chances of getting one and run in to issues due to crap power output to the system [opinion]

don't know why it all got lined out above ?

And? A 100usd PSU filled with extremely low-tier Chinese c(r)aps is just a joke. 10 year warranty? Heh, I'd be amazed if those caps (and sleeve bearing fan) will last for even three years. Hell, even CapXon is almost like premium when compared to "Suckscon" and Elite.

lol... YA, like good ol BFG cards had that lifetime ? where are that at now to honker that ? I think you fight it out with PNY ?good luck .. apexgaming ? heck I guess I never see them around before in all I look at and use .

''Apex was founded in 1998 with a mission to provide quality PC enclosure and power supply to the mainstream white box market at extremely competitive prices.

well been around 20 so may go 10 more for the warrantee ?

like you say what di I think will last 10 years ? jap rubycons or fuduck china caps and all ?? ..hmmmmm....... I think i'll stick with the JAP parts

It's capable of delivering what's advertised now, when it is new. In 3 years, not so much. After the same amount of time, Japanese caps will be happily doing 107% just as if they were new.

Low-quality caps will affect longevity - not just because the caps themselves go out of spec faster, but also because out-of-spec places increased stress on other parts of the PSU. Not to mention what the resultant increase in ripple and noise is doing to your precious PC components! And considering that the 3.3V and 5V rails (that use the crappy caps) are already close to the edge on this new unit... nope, nope, nope.

I doubt Apexgaming will exist in 10 years' time due to all the warranty claims they're gonna get from these units. FFS, you can pick up a Rosewill Capstone 850W Gold for under $100, why would you even LOOK at this thing???

really. for me for 150$ for something like this would be worth scraping up the 40 bucks and go with it and have some piece of mind with the build quality here

http://www.jonnyguru.com/modules.php?name=NDReviews&op=Story5&reid=500

we know how evga backs there stuff up or at least gives easy to deal with RMA's and there units can go on sale at any time + any rebates on top of that , if you buy your time looking you could catch a unit as this for 100 bucks or less
pc partrs picker shows it has been as low as 119 $ from B&H and 126$ from newegg this month . at that a unit as the evga would go in the cart / buy now and save [money and maybe your system headache ]
