Antec, a leading provider of high-performance computer components and accessories for the gaming, PC upgrade and Do-It-Yourself market, broadens its range of power supplies with the new High Current Gamer Extreme series. The PSU line is now commercially available from 179 Euros for the 850W model and 209 Euros for the 1000W model (suggested retail price).

The High Current Gamer Extreme features a fully-modular cable management system which enables users to use only the cables which are needed, greatly simplifying installation and helps clear out excess cables that can obstruct and reduce airflow. The whisper-quiet, fluid dynamic bearing 135 mm fan provides high airflow with durability and longevity. The Zero RPM fan mode further ensures a longer-lasting and quieter system, by using thermal sensors to activate the fan only when you need it.

Equipped with features that ensure peak performance for the enthusiast and gaming-oriented segment, the High Current Gamer Extreme series also brings a new level of visual appeal to PC builds with a distinguished, aluminum outer casing styled with an elegant rose gold finish.

A bevy of features, from the 80 PLUS Gold rating, to the fully-modular cabling and 100% Japanese capacitors, make the HCG Extreme a great choice for a reliable and efficient PC system for gamers and professionals. The HCG Extreme pushes the standard for excellence with the circuit shield suite of industrial protections and is backed by a 10-year warranty.

Haven't the geniuses at Antec thought about which way all the print will be facing once the PSU is mounted in the bottom of a case, fan down?

This looks nicely compact. Is it SFX-L? Or just a bit shorter ATX like EVGA is doing recently? Also shows you how non-standard the pinouts are for cables. All the PCIe here can be CPU EPS too it seems. Which I think is AWESOME. But makes it hard to be 100% sure you won't fry anything, especially with cable mods.

After my last Antec HCG power supply burst into flames (while I was sitting at the Windows desktop), I wouldn't touch them with a 10-foot pole. :shadedshu:

Blame the OEM, not the brand. I had a HCG 620W which is simply a Seasonic S12II with Antec brand.

Besides, Antec's after-sales service is non-existent.
Never again for me.
I have a 1300 HCP platinum which I cannot use, except for my 4790k, my 5820k and below

Why you cannot use it? At least EU law protects the customer, if the seller doesn't RMA it, then the manufacturer will in most cases.

We must have installed over 50 S12's / M12's and not a one has failed. My only interaction with Antec support has been 2 instances.

Soon after I did a pair of builds for 2 brothers USB 2 came out and i asked if I could purchase replacement front panel modules as the cases came with USB 1 ... they sent them no charge. The 2nd time was a fan failure, they sent two no charge.

Blame the luck of the draw more often than not. Even the safest buy in the world has a failure now and then. Here's the latest RMA rates for PSUs'
  • Antec 0,46% (N/A)
  • be quiet! 0,48% (contre 0,98%)
  • FSP Group 0,66% (contre 0,89%)
  • Corsair 0,77% (contre 0,90%)
  • Cooler Master 0,87% (contre 3,47%)
  • Seasonic 1,70% (contre 2,02%)
  • Enermax 1,77% (contre 1,30%)
  • Zalman 2,37% (contre 1,17%)

Well, they are still Seasonics with cover designed by Antec.

[/ QUOTE]

Except the manufacturer doesn't respond.
When the z170 came out, my power supply was no longer compatible. And this was not indicated anywhere.
I got a ticket from Antec, they don't want to know.

Why would I blame the OEM?
  • Antec set the product specifications.
  • Antec chose that company to manufacture the power supply.
  • Antec slapped their name on the final product.
  • Antec supplied the warranty.
Reliability is Antec's responsibility, not the OEM's.
