Apparently, AMD isn't celebrating its 50th anniversary in all parts of the globe, judging from recent reports regarding its AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT 50th Anniversary Edition. Apparently, the exclusive, limited-edition graphics card will only be available for US and China customers - two of the biggest worldwide markets, for sure. This is a strange decision from AMD, since a sold unit is a sold unit; however, this may be a sign of really limited availability of the graphics card and the hardware powering it.

Manufactured in TSMC's 7 nm fabrication plants, the RX 5700 XT is infused with AMD's next-gen RDNA architecture, which makes this a hot product, even if its performance and pricing aren't what everybody had (sometimes unrealistically) hoped for. That this limited edition graphics card is only available in these two select countries may speak to the amount of inventory AMD will have available to move on the RX 5700 bandwagon. Even though AMD would love to sell as many of these limited edition graphics cards as possible, especially considering their $50 premium over the reference RX 5700 XT ($499 vs $449), that the company is artificially limiting availability speaks to an even more limited edition of the hardware than previously expected. This, in turn, may speak to a need to tighten up the belt on AMD's own distribution capacities lest AIB partners end up with unsatisfying amounts of hardware. This is just speculation, so take it for what it is; whatever the reason AMD did have to limit this release, I can see some grumbling customers on the horizon already.

Can't wait, July 7th, 9:00am. Ebay
Radeon 5700XT
$3000 Buy it now.
International shipping. $200

No doubt there will be people asking ridiculous prices on Ebay if they are in short supply and most likely retailers will be price gouging as well.

It's every AMD gfx release. I bought a Radeon Vega FE, so I know what it's like to be burned once by AMD.
Don't get me wrong, still works great, probably last another 2 - 3 years. Just bought a second one for $300, but the original one, I think I paid over $800 in the Vega hype train.

ermmmmm that kinda happens on both sides, and really the only time I remember this really happening with AMD was the RX480.

Why not? It's probably designed and made in China (AMD Shanghai team leads Radeon development, afaik). The main IC is fabbed in Taiwan, but we all know how China's opinion of Taiwan.

This seems like an odd take. It's a limited edition with clearly worse value than its standard edition ($50 extra for what essentially amounts to a minor factory OC - you'll no doubt get the same or better from 3rd party cards), but a commemorative one. Limited edition doesn't even imply limited availability - it states it outright!

Vega had limited supply because of HBM2 - this has GDDR6, which is plentiful. TSMC 7nm is by now very mature, and large customers like Apple are moving on to 7+.

What would then cause limited parts availability?

Maybe Dr. Su is personally signing each one with an electro-pencil, lol.

To be entirely fair, "limited edition" seems to be a common marketing term to denote "expensive edition," rather than actually reflecting the total stock.

I suspect they will all sell no matter what the real world price turns out to be. Some people (AMD fans) will see them as collectible and some people just like to have something that very few other people can have.

This one is indeed better than the stock, reaching higher clocks from factory. Some binned chips into those make them indeed collectable. I won't spend this kind of money to gεt one but it isn't as bad a product imho.

Well, first AMD must decide what their allotment 7nm wafer starts go toward Ryzen 3000 production and how much should go to Navi. From that they need to test and bin those that make the silicone lottery to provide the 1830 Gaming clock. While then you'd have to guess/judge how many intend to pay a premium. I'm sure they'll do one production run for this (silicon and gold trim) and call it done. The remaining chips will get to go to AIB's willing to ante up for the remaining binned parts for their special/OC'd builds. I'd put number of say 2500-5000 and call it done.
Dayum.
I was sure I was in "super expensive nvidia" thread.
You mean the old/onging from previous, or a new thread discussing of latest "SUPER-SUPER" pricing?

Yes, that's why RX470, 480, 570 and 580 were all better choices than the 1060. Mid range is the most common class for gamers. Vega 56 with the current prices is also a great choice. And it's funny to read this after NV's current gen, only the GTX 1660 and 1660Ti have reasonable price-performance ratio, while the 2070, 2080 and the 2080Ti are ridiculously priced.

I am so disappointed. I really wanted that megalomaniac Lisa Su signature on my graphic card
Thank God we have leatherjacket Huang with his shxxty behaviour.

Can't remember HD2900, I strongly agree with the RX590, but what's your problem with the RX480 and 580? They are still the best option after RX570 in the mid range.
