SK hynix Inc. announced today the launch of its "Gold S31" solid-state drive (SSD). Gold S31 (SATA III - first generation) is the first of the Company's new SuperCore series of consumer SSDs, an internal drive lineup based on SK hynix's core technology. With its speed and reliability, SK hynix's Gold S31 will be a perfect choice for all PC users, particularly for gamers, designers, and content creators. Gold S31 pushes the limits on high-performance SSDs, providing users the next level of speed with sequential read speeds up to 560 MB/s, as well as superior quality, reliability, and five-year warranty.

The 2.5-inch drive supports the SATA III interface based on 3D NAND Flash technology, and is now available in 1 TB, 500 GB and 250 GB capacities on Amazon US. All key components in Gold S31, from NAND Flash and built-in controller to DRAM and firmware, were designed and produced by SK hynix. The in-house components are built for robust performance and reliability.

Gold S31 will be offered exclusively on Amazon US this year, but is expected to expand to other North American and European markets starting next year, when a PCIe version of the SSD can also be expected.

"SK hynix has been supplying global PC OEMs with high-quality, competitive SSDs since 2013, leveraging its proven quality and reliability as the world's leading memory provider," said Kook Won, Head of Global Sales & Marketing Strategy of SK hynix. "The launch of Gold S31 with Amazon US will be a meaningful opportunity to expand the experience of SK hynix's SSDs to consumers."

Gold S31 (SATA III - first generation) is the first of the Company's new SuperCore series of consumer SSD

And hopefully the last.....

Why any company in their right mind would continue to pour money, time, & resources into developing a 1st-Gen SATA drive is beyond me. Granted, making all the parts in-house is great for a lot of reasons (QA/QC being the main one), but why not apply all of that work into developing NEXT-gen devices instead (like, maybe, like, pcie 4/5 nvme drives), and contribute something meaningful to the tech world instead of these me-too, same ole same same slow pokes.....

It's hard to get excited without an idea of the price. SATA SSDs are a commodity product now, unless you really scrape the barrel they're all going to have similar performance and the real distinguisher is the price.

Maybe you should start understanding whatever you're reading. This ain't no SATA first gen, its SATA III. Its the first gen of drives from this series, with others to come in the future.
Your nick does you justice.

Just bought one of these. Not bad for a 1 TB SATA III drive under 90 USD.
