At $250, the Ryzen 5 3600XT is the most affordable Ryzen XT model, and it even includes a heatsink in the box. Overclocking worked very well. Our Ryzen 5 3600XT review sample reached a maximum stable frequency of 4.5 GHz on all cores, which makes this an interesting SKU for tweakers.

Not worth it. Get a dirt cheap 3600 or shell out for 3700x instead. Surprised AMD bothered to release XT at all.

As expected, basically placeholders for the MSRP of the previous models. At least this makes the "discounted" prices of the previous models official so, a win for the consumer in my book.

You'll get used to it, 'cause with AMD that's the norm which only occasionally gets interrupted by mildly impressive launches like the original 3000 series.

This is not specific to AMD: nobody competes with themselves.
Zen+ was a mild improvement over Zen. Zen2 was a marked improvement over Zen+. And Zen3 I expect will be a marked improvement over Zen2. But adding $75 to the bill for an iffy extra 100MHz doesn't make sense. There was no pressure on AMD, they did not actually have to release new Zen2 parts.
My guess is they only released these so the press won't stop talking about AMD till Zen3 is ready.

Which SKU would launch then? Zen has led with desktop parts till now, I don't expect Zen3 to change that. But it will probably only arrive in time for Christmas.

It has so far indeed, but they might feel it's better to launch Epyc Zen3 parts first since that's where they will have the most head start before Intel manages to properly scale their Cove architecture to larger dies and also because Epyc parts so far haven't been selling as well as they hoped.

Epyc is the more lucrative product segment and I think it also needed the refresh more badly than AM4 so probably the reason for it is a combination of things.

I pretty well agree with I think AMD is trying to charge a exorbitant amount extra for a extra 100MHz and bit better energy efficiency and in the case of the 3800XT/3900XT also omitting the packaged cooler as well. I just don't see it is a product lineup that is going to sell in much volume. I think it'll still sell in some cases, but the volume will be low unless they drop the pricing on it over time. It seems questionable right now, but at the same time yields on the newer node will continue to improve increasing pricing flexibility while at the same time demand relative to what TSMC charges for the node should come down as it ages as well obviously it's high now, but a year from now two years from now the demand and pricing structure will be a bit different. I think even if AMD just barely breaks even with these chips it's probably good for them as a company by diminishing Intel's ability to turn things around and putting AMD back into a finicial cage so to speak again like it was with Bulldozer.

So, these numbers could interest high-refresh-rate gaming PC builders with fast 120 Hz and 144 Hz monitors.

Maybe it's time to update this sentence and mention 240 Hz and maybe 280 Hz monitors, since 120 and 144 Hz monitors are not so high refresh and not top of the line anymore?

To be honest I think the vast majority of people are probably still using 60Hz/75Hz displays. Higher refresh rate and resolution displays are becoming more afford tough in both segments however. I think AMD been moving in the correct direction to be fair it's making some headway on raising the minimum refresh rate standards higher while having a even bigger emphasis on resolution quality which is of more overall importance as whole especially outside of strictly gaming.
