The HP P500 portable SSD retails at only $115 for the 1 TB version, which makes it one of the most affordable portable drives available. Performance is better than any mechanical HDD, but can't keep up with some competing USB SSDs. The underlying reason is that the P500 uses UFS instead of NVMe, an interesting design choice.

It is a fascinating design, I guess it can be handy as a compact external drive to backup photos and videos while on the move. About the lack of pseudo-SLC cache ("TurboWrite"), I believe that the feature was introduced in the UFS specifications only with the 3.1 revision (together with a bunch of other SSD features), so I suppose it's pretty much expected that this UFS 2.1 drive doesn't use it.

Get the Crucial X8 1TB. Expensive is cheap in the long run. Time is money. It is 2021, so wanting for things to transfer should be consigned to historical spy/action TV/movie dramas.

HP P500 1TB $188 AUD
Crucial X8 1TB $210 AUD

Given the performance difference ...
