ASUS today announced the ROG PG259QN monitor, a 24,5" monitor featuring a blazing fast 360 Hz refresh rates paired with a 1 ms response time. Of course, driving that refresh rate means that the monitor itself only offers 1080p resolution - albeit it does so using an IPS panel. Color-accuracy isn't reported as of yet, though, so save your money, at least for now, if you're also looking at color-critical applications. But the defining purpose for this monitor is for it to be one of the best solutions for twitch gaming scenarios. According to an NVIDIA-led study, gamers with a 360 Hz monitor improved their K/D ratio by 4% compared to using a "mere" 240 Hz solution, so there's that. The addition of a G-Sync module, according to ASUS, allows the PG259QN to have the best smoothness of any gaming monitor, bar none.

The ROG PG259QN supports ASUS AURA Sync, slim bezels, tilt, pivot, height, and swivel adjustments. I/O is guaranteed by 1x DisplayPort 1.4 cable and 1x HDMI 2.0 port, alongside 1x 3.5 mm headset jack and 1x USB 3.0 pass-through port, as well. No word on pricing at time of writing.

This post says TN, Post on /r/monitors said IPS (specifically Fast IPS)

Probably IPS, seeing as the other 360hz ones are IPS too.

edit; its ips. sauce: https://www.asus.com/Monitors/ROG-Swift-360Hz-PG259QN/

Yeah no amount of money would make me use a TN monitor, they are all garbage. This is a new IPS monitor, thank goodness. The only time I've seen 3d and been impressed was a modded Mass Effect 2 in 3d, I do kind of wish it was possible but the games must be made properly from scratch for it.

"This is a tech that has been left in the closet for some time now, so it's interesting to note its presence, Whether or not this means an eventual comeback of the 3D realm to displays is anyone's guess - but considering adoption of previous generations of the technology, I'd wager a resounding "no". "

It hasn't been "left in the closet", it's outright not supported, hasn't been since April 2019.

1ms IPS panel... I'll believe it when I see it

The newest 240hz 1080p ISP panels released this year have response times very very close to the best TN monitors so....

IPS is faster than TN for quite some time. Only faster TN's correct reverse ghosting issues, mainstream variants don't even correct for the right pixel switching gradations.

Uh no? The best TN is still faster than the best ISP panel. The new panels released this year is literally the first time ISP has even come close to TN speed considering 240hz ISP didnt even exist until very recently so im not entirely sure what you're talking about.

IPS is fast... but TN is still faster and has less overshoot, right? Faster than TN... give me a tftcentral review showing that and I'll believe you. Recent panels still seem very much stuck at 4-6ms unless you go into extreme overdrive modes with ditto ghosting. The best ones maybe hit 3-4ms averages.

So is this 360hz actual and real 360 refreshes per second? Or is it that sudo frame blending nonsense?

lmao a 4% increase in gaming (players) experience....just a slight bit of diminishing returns there it seems

I use 60hz still. Willing and want to upgrade to 120hz....but beyond that seems like wtf who wants or needs this unless you're one of those blokes wearing jerseys on gamer teams and your life revolves around it

Lol what a terrible comment. They didn’t stop pushing higher resolutions because of competitive players bud. There’s not much demand because a) to play 4k and 60+ fps, you need at least a 2080, which is $600 more than a gtx 1660 super. And b) 4k on 24” and 27” brings diminishing returns. You’re really giving up the smoothness of your gameplay, just to play at 4k and barely notice the difference over 1440p.

Also, what more do you want. There are 4k120hz monitors, out there. Right now there’s no need for 4k240hz since current, flagship cards can’t even push 4k120.
