Shame really, it's let down by poor tuning for a package that's otherwise quite good.

  • Instrumental music in particular is troubled with poor imaging
  • Expensive for what you get
You have saved people from wasting their money IMO.

I saw the review title had the word "monitors" in it, and then I saw that it was old-school corded 3.5mm and thought that finally, this was a set of earbuds to get excited about.

Monitors have one job; Flat frequency response.
Everything else is totally irrelevant if they don't meet that category-defining requirement.

I don't know what this is, but it sure ain't flat - more like your typical hissy-boom party EQ and is about as far from being classified as a "monitor" as you can get.

If I want hissy-boom party noise I'll use some cheapo $20 Sony/JVC earbuds thanks. These are supposed to be expensively crafted, flat-tuned monitors.

IEMs these days are less on the monitoring part, and more on the In-ear part. There are many that are neutral or reference tuned, but it's the minority now. Ultimately, the important thing is to just realize that these are using the same form factor with the wire going behind the ears.

Wait, what?
I think I'm out of touch with earphone lingo!

Are you saying "monitor" describes the cable routing of behind the ears and not the intended function of level-monitoring?

No, I am saying that it's just become the easiest way to describe such earphones today even if it's not the most accurate thing in the world. Think of it as how MTV isn't about music much these days, and IEMs are more than just monitoring.
