ZSA, the maker of the ErgoDox EZ, aims for the heavens with the new Moonlander Mark 1 ergonomic split keyboard. With several innovations and more customization options than the number of outer space puns you can make, this premium keyboard will turn you into a better typist while also minimizing the potential for wrist pain.

System Name Bragging Rights
Processor Atom Z3735F 1.33GHz
Motherboard It has no markings but it's green
Cooling No, it's a 2.2W processor
Memory 2GB DDR3L-1333
Video Card(s) Gen7 Intel HD (4EU @ 311MHz)
Storage 32GB eMMC and 128GB Sandisk Extreme U3
Display(s) 10" IPS 1280x800 60Hz
Case Veddha T2
Audio Device(s) Apparently, yes
Power Supply Samsung 18W 5V fast-charger
Mouse MX Anywhere 2
Keyboard Logitech MX Keys (not Cherry MX at all)
VR HMD Samsung Oddyssey, not that I'd plug it into this though....
Software W10 21H1, barely
Benchmark Scores I once clocked a Celeron-300A to 564MHz on an Abit BE6 and it scored over 9000.
This looks amazing but it's too much of a difference from the regular layout for people who use multiple machines (and don't get much choice in what keyboard many of those machines are hooked up with)

I'd still pay big bucks for this with CherryMX options:

Every "strays from the norm" layout I've tried in the name of ergonomics has resulted in a horrible jerk back to reality when faced with a regular 104-key international keyboard. As much as I want to love improved layouts like this ZSA moonlander, the reality is that server KVMs and laptops don't have that luxury, and my brain cannot physically cope with every single keyboard I ever use being different to the one I choose for my personal rig at home.

My dream ergo keyboard based on the ZSA Moonlander was posted here as a tangent to the Everest Max review, and they still hold fairly true here.

But having tried my friend's Moonlander out, I'd like to complain that the pinky column and programmable column keys need to be moved down a half key to a full key, if their intent is to eventually make it a Tatarus-like replacement when gaming and using the programmable keys as shortcuts or macro buttons. Stretching out that pinky to hit some pre-programmed keys that aren't Esc is kind of inconvenient in faster paced games. As well, I'd love to see a hot-swappable thumbstick for both left and right options (to include the rare lefties who use mice left-handed and game right-handed).

I wonder if someone in the keyboard community has developed a VIA hex file for this layout. Initial question would be is it even possible to get to the bootloader with something like the QMK Toolbox? Being able to use VIA would solve many of the programming issues as VIA allows you to remap on the fly.
