Hellblade Senua's Sacrifice Enhanced has finally released on PC. It supports ray tracing and both NVIDIA's Deep Learning Super Sampling (DLSS) and AMD's FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR). In this mini-review, we take a look at and compare the image quality and performance offered by both upscaling solutions.

With regards to the lack of sharpening control in FSR would the sharpening control in Radeon Setting have any effect on it at all or does FSR just totally bypass it and do it's own thing

Interesting thought. I mean it just occurred to me I just always have RIS on without even thinking about it.

Looking at the screenshots, both look fine to me. Once the devs clear out the rendering issues on the FSR side everybody wins.

I can't see the water hitting the beach as well on the DLSS, but on FSR its clear the water is hitting the beach. Overall DLSS is probably better, but I am not sure really, I'd say they both have pros and cons.

FSR really needs that sharpening slider to fine tune it, having said that, DLSS really runs away with this one.

This game now pushes my 3080 down into the 40-50fps range with RT & DLSS Quality with all other settings at 'Very High' @4K

If I want to keep the 60fps lock (in the bits I've played so far) I can't go above DLSS Performance.

In fact, it now runs roughly at the same FPS as my old 2080, without RT & DLSS @4K

FSR looks better. I'm sure it's not noticeably while playing, but you can see that sharpening works with the still images.

Sharper =/ better

Let look at the supporting structure of the bridges:
It's easy to tell that on the FSR side, the object edges are darker, along with more noises, these are sharpening artifacts, maybe reduce the sharpen filter by 10-20% (If that were possible) would make FSR look acceptable IMO.

In the articles screenshots? I'd disagree. And I'd disagree even more forwardly having played the update for a couple hours now switching between both. FSR increases aliasing and sharpening artefacts, while DLSS reduces shimmering, retains and beefs up fine detail, and the sharpening is easily fine tuned. Neither is perfect, but the superior (from an iq perspective in motion and stills) is obvious.

Imagine upgrading to find lower performance and all that for some real time light calculations instead of pre cooked same stuff.

New problems, new solutions, net gain zero and your wallet emptied.

It wasn't that bad.

I managed to grab a Founders 3080 Card @ MSRP (£650) then sold my old 2080 for £430 a week later.

...and my 3080 is now worth £1260 (cash payment) if i sold it to my local CEX store.

Damn hard to see the difference in motion, the fact we have to zoom in on screenshots tells me the difference is negligible if even noticeable at all at 1440. I'm happy to not have to rely on proprietary hardware though, I like both solutions and expect FSR to win unless Nvidia decimates everyone with DLSS 3.0 down the road.

It's strange that DLSS in performance mode, both 1440p and 1080p, show this checkerboard pattern on this building.
