DeepCool PQ-M Series 1000 W

A mere 3 PCIe connectors on a 1kW platform... how about, NO?
 
It is specifically designed for one Fermi-type Nvidia RTX 3080 or RTX 3090. You know they are hungry as hell?!

Not to mention the terrible rumours about even higher power consumption RTX 4080/4090 :D

This POS isn't "designed" for anything. It's a PSU, the only thing it does is satisfy the ATX specification. Saying a PSU is "designed" for a particular graphics card, or motherboard, or whatever is stupid.

The only "design" here is DeepCool "designing" to cut corners by ripping customers off with fewer PCIe connectors.

Not to mention the terrible rumours about even higher power consumption RTX 4080/4090 :D
Please do everyone a favour and educate yourself by reading the ATX specification. That way you hopefully won't make asinine comments like this one in future.

This POS isn't "designed" for anything. It's a PSU, the only thing it does is satisfy the ATX specification. Saying a PSU is "designed" for a particular graphics card, or motherboard, or whatever is stupid.

The only "design" here is DeepCool "designing" to cut corners by ripping customers off with fewer PCIe connectors.


Please do everyone a favour and educate yourself by reading the ATX specification. That way you hopefully won't make asinine comments like this one in future.

It's specifically aimed to milk those morons that buy 1kW+ PSUs in hopes to 'future-proof' it for the RTX4xxx. It's not going to work. And most current 750/850W PSUs work fine with RTX3080/3090, except for Seasonic Prime based ones (and a couple of way less popular models). 3 PCIe connectors on 1kW PSU is not good, at all. Although, these PSUs are also quite a bit cheaper than competition, at least among other Seasonic Focus rebrands, so maybe it doesn't matter in the end.

I have a Prime Titanium Ultra 850 W PSU and the RTX 3080 working without any issues. What's the problem you're referring to?

Seasonic X was indeed better built, even compared to Prime but that's not exactly the problem here.
I have a Prime Titanium Ultra 850 W PSU and the RTX 3080 working without any issues. What's the problem you're referring to?
What's your motherboard ? Are you using stock cables ?

The problem i'm referring to is that Prime based PSUs shutdown with RTX3080/3090 pretty much regardless of wattage, there's a ton of reports all over the internet, i've seen like at least half a dozen of them on Reddit in the past month. JonnyGURU also confirmed it with Corsair AX which is Seasonic Prime TX. It's not OCP tripping on Ampere power draw spikes (because the PSU doesn't latch off) but a design oversight, the GPU feed back some noise on 12V rail which the PSU doesn't react very well to. Some high-end motherboards (ASUS Crosshair / some -[insert random letter] series, Gigabyte Master / Designare) have been seen to remedy this issue somehow, maybe they have some filtering between the PCIe slot and 24-pin cable 12V planes.

Yeah, I'm using the stock cables. Motherboards? In the so-called meantime, there were for example Z590 Taichi, Z690 Biostar Valkyrie, Z690 Taichi, and I'll move to the Z690 Apex, but I don't expect any problem either. I didn't have any shutdowns... (well, lucky me then).

apparently its been mostly fes and evgas that've been experiencing issues w/ primes.

Oh, yeah, lol, these definitely qualify for 'high-end' :)

I'm not sure but i'd guess It's more about the power limit because the noise is there because of very aggressive power state switching (which also leads to high transient power draw), which is the more aggressive the higher the power limit. ASUS TUF shouldn't be particularly unhinged tho.
 
It isn't really an expensive one at ¥999.
