The Entertainment Software Association (ESA) has announced that the 2022 edition of the famous Electronics Entertainment Expo (E3) show will once again occur in a digital venue. The decision has been justified due to the current Omicron infection waves sweeping across most of the world, and while recent studies place Omicron as a less severe variant, its extremely high infection rates should still give decision makers pause.

Interestingly, the ESA still hasn't confirmed the date in which this digital E3 is to take place - something the association always did at the close of each edition. Reports state that the decision to hold a digital-only event for 2022 might have been taken even before the current Omicron surge, and perhaps as early as last year. Should E3 2022 occur in an online format, this will be the second time this happens since the event's first edition back in 1995. In all these years, E3 has only ever been fully canceled in 2020, the year that COVID-19 was declared a pandemic.

So, getting vaccinated really is pointless.

If all people are going to do, is act like a bunch of cowards after going to so much trouble to get the jab, you have to ask, why bother?....why bother.

The thought is logical but at the same time, not realistic. I 'feel' the same way, and yet...

This takes time. Vaccination is still the only road out of this, but we are impatient and far too lenient on people who dont vaccinate.

So far the only meaningful & quantifiable progress is being made ever since people started vaccinating. But as long as we have open societies, until you have good vaccination rates everywhere, youre gonna be surprised over and over again. And if needed vaccines can be adapted to that. So yes. You will be boostering again... no doubt.

The only other option is saying 'yolo', but thats impossible to sell. Yet people are selling it, somehow, thinking it will amount to anything other than more chaos and more lockdowns. GL with that. Some people like seeing the world burn, I guess.

Using the available global statistics where vaccinations have been used, deaths have been vastly reduced. However, I disagree with further lockdowns, event closures etc, given we have choices - vax or not. If you get vaccinated, the odds are more favourable, if you don't that's that person's choice. IMO, with the offer of vaccinations, it should be up to society how it moves forward. One caveat - this virus still sends people to hospital, and can big companies afford for that to happen in terms of productivity? Can healthcare cope? Not really.

This is why the CDC in the US went from a 10 day quarantine to 5, and check out our record breaking hospitalization rates!

To be fair, Omicron is far less fatal, and the symptoms are minor, when compared to previous variants, but all the more reason for masks and vaccinations. It’d be nice to live with this variant rather than letting it spread and potentially mutate into something more serious.

So are you saying we should have more concentration camps for the unvaccinated? Seems like the dehumanization of unvaccinated people is almost complete, its the same thing that happens right before humans anywhere are treated like cattle. Maybe we should segregate them and send them in rail cars to be educated by the ministry of right think, what shall we do with those who still don't comply? How many jabs is enough to be acceptable comrade?

How about no more lockdowns and let people be free, if they want to die of a easily preventable disease they can, the same way they can die of eating too much, smoking tobacco or pot, taking drugs that are now legal...

You seem authoritarian and its not a good look.

I implore the next person to post do so with compassion, consideration, and an eye on the science. Vaccination isn't always possible. And though it is a path towards an exit, we can also take care of the vulnerable people by other means. Likewise, posting BS anti-vax disinformation isn't helpful.

Consider that a warning moving forward.

Edit: with hindsight, posts about vaccines etc will be LQ'd to keep the thread lean.

You seem authoritarian and its not a good look.

That's what you make of it, don't put your words in my mouth. Its not a strange thing to just make sure everyone who can medically vaccinate just fine, actually does it. There is no oppression there whatsoever, you do it for a common good. And you can deploy lots of ways for it. We tried nudging, 100 dollar bills, and all sorts of other stuff from a positive approach. We tried explaining - research papers are just there to look at for all those self-proclaimed 'researchers' online. Not working apparently, look at the US - 60%. Sound bites on social media define what people do. Is that sanity? Is it 'just fine, let people do what they want'? Okay.

The next step quite simply is exclusion from society. After all, society is a mutual contract of giving and receiving, and right now, the balance is quite strange. Its very well possible a vaccinated majority is going to tell a refusing minority to take a hike. And I really hope that happens, yes. Because that will be the trigger for the vast majority of them to get a jab. Possibly enough for most countries to even hit the desired 85~90%. And at that point, we can collectively, honestly not worry any longer about the minority. Thén we have the typical 'live and let live' status quo we want. Prior to that? Whatever it takes.

You thank the last post but your response is based on a lot of assumption and personal opinion. That's fine, and typical, but you might have to consider all angles here. As much as we try to consider what it would be like for those unvaccinated, the same goes for that group - why is their approach fair towards the majority? An interesting question and the conclusion merits pretty far reaching measures, indeed. That's a majority with families, kids, homes and jobs, that are all on pause. Its about future generations, too.

The real question is, are you a 'have' or a 'have not'. Its really that simple. The world will go on. Its not nice to hear, but its reality, we have several thousand years of history to refer to wrt handling disease. All these suckers believing their idiot theories are on the shortest end of Darwin's stick, and I really don't care what you've read thinking otherwise. Its a reality, one of those 'uncomfortable truths' we have a lot of lately. And it faces the same stern denial, much like those still not believing in climate change or thinking the earth is flat. We know its impossible to defeat stupid, by now. Stupid needs guidance, with strong repercussions for not accepting it. Many systems in society are built on exactly that principle - just think of Taxes: do this, or else. Apparently they do work.

And note... your post almost got straight up personal, I hope you note this one is not, its a simple, fact based observation and prediction of what will happen because humans are humans. Uncomfortable, indeed. I didn't invent them... sorry.

Not really.

You say that, until you figure out that healthcare is already steadily losing personnel and we haven't even remotely seen the last of it.

This is about the fabric of society - healthcare, education, logistics. As much as I disagree with locking down society even longer from an emotional standpoint, I think we are stuck between rock and hard place there. Opening schools? GL when the better half of teachers is going to drop out sooner rather than later. Opening society? Enjoy taking care of your new wounded with half your hospital staff. Never mind covid infections, just regular health care. Broke a leg? Sorry, no room today.

You've given the answer yourself. What you present is an impossible plan, as much as I, I'll say it again, emotionally completely agree. And from a personal standpoint, similarly, I really don't care about Covid. But the fact that others do, makes it a collective problem - such is the way of society - giving and receiving.

Also, interesting LQ choice.
Saw your edit.

Oh how many times does this needs to be repeated - they are the only thing which allows avoiding death or hospitalization. Both of those things are kinda more important than visiting some event...

Why do folks jump to the Holocaust when talking about lockdowns and the unvaccinated being able to access certain businesses? If you want to talk about how the nazis rounded up communists and socialists and other dissenters who made a personal, political choice to disagree with their government, than sure, maybe there’s a comparison, but then you’re just admitting that your decision is political/ideological.

But, as we all know, being of a particular ethnicity is not a choice. Drawing the comparison between unvaccinated people and ethnicities is disingenuous at best amd offensive at worst. No one is sending the unvaccinated to labor camps, and no one is sending them to gas chambers.

More, the nazis repealed vaccine mandates that the German government had in place precisely so that Jewish people, the disabled and unfit, etc, would die, while encouraging party members and Aryans to take them and mandating vaccines for their army and youth corps. It is a truly bad comparison.
So are you saying we should have more concentration camps for the unvaccinated?
This implies that there are concentration camps for the unvaccinated. There currently are no concentration camps for the unvaccinated anywhere in the world, except for maybe hospitals, which are voluntary for the unvaccinated.

How about no more lockdowns and let people be free, if they want to die of a easily preventable disease they can, the same way they can die of eating too much, smoking tobacco or pot, taking drugs that are now legal...
The difference between all of those negative health outcomes that are correlated to the health decisions you list and a virus is that one is contagious and the others aren’t. It’s not just a personal or familial decision to not get vaccinated, it’s a social one that effects everyone in a community and around the world.

If 80% of the world were vaccinated last fall we’d be done with the pandemic, with the occasional endemic popping up here and there. Sure, 80% of the world getting vaccinated was and is a pipe dream, but the difference is that that would have largely eradicated the virus, there’d be no more lockdowns or permits, E3 and CES would run smoothly, and millions of people who died would still be alive.

@the54thvoid – no problem if you lq this post, but it seems only fair that you lq steevo’s post, too. It is not only disinformation, but it’s acceptance only invites more direct responses. I appreciate how this might be seen as unfair to some people since you hadn’t implemented any rules (though I’m not sure how that post isn’t off-topic/unrelated to an event being cancelled and overtly political), but so is the vaccine-debate-bait.

Vaccination massively reduces the odds of spreading it, so no.

So are you saying we should have more concentration camps for the unvaccinated?
If you mean stay at home as much as possible if unvaccinated, then yes. The concentration camp comparison is completely inappropriate and insensitive however.

So if people are gathered at a camp with one reason they are concentrated at a camp for a reason.

Semantics? No, it’s clearly defined examples of how authoritarians push for more power and make it OK to abuse the rights of humans with free will and self determination violations.

I can only theorize they think using emotional ploys like that somehow strengthens their arguement, rather than just making them look completely unhinged.

So you took the definition of one out of two words and ignored what they mean together in a historical context to make yourself look like you weren't doing an emotional ploy? Lol, friggin brilliant.

Newsflash, you still look like an unhinged loony here to everyone but wackjob youtube channels.

Try not using words assocated with mass extermination in recent history next time.

Don’t shift goal posts — internment is plainly different from a concentration camp, and generally you don’t get to eat lemon meringue and chocolate tarts in a concentration camp (or when interned, for that matter). By your logic, living in an apartment building is like living in a concentration camp. Surely you can see how absurd that comparison is.

More, social distancing is enforced in Australia’s quarantine centers, and you get your own private room (with AC, TV, and three meals a day) and bathroom, plus you are guaranteed to leave after 14 days. You get to socialize, contact friends and family, exercise, watch the sunset from a balcony… Not only is that not the kind of concentration you are referring to, you generally aren’t guaranteed to leave a concentration camp after two weeks of hanging out and making friends.

No forced labor, no physical violence, no squalid conditions, no gas chambers... The comparison is ludicrous and deeply offensive to people who have actually survived forced internment (the Holocaust, gulags, Japanese internment centers, Guantanamo, etc).

Most importantly, Australia is not rounding up unvaccinated citizens (or non-citizens) and putting them in internment. So, please, stop — it’s in poor taste.

A person only has to go to them in the first place if they are a) a foreign traveler entering the country, b) a citizen returning to the country, or c) a citizen who choses to do so voluntarily. All of these are choices, and not forced internment.

Don’t want to quarantine for two weeks? Don’t travel to Australia during a pandemic. Or get vaccinated and do. It’s a decision, not persecution.

Heck, if you’re a citizen flying into a non-repatriation airport you can just go home and quarantine for as little as 7 days or your first negative test (depending on the territory).

Finally, Australia only has 83 Covid deaths per million compared to 2014 per million in the US. Funny thing — lockdowns and quarantining actually works to prevent cases of infectious disease.

To be sure (my emphasis):
So are you saying we should have more concentration camps for the unvaccinated?

Newsflash, you still look like an unhinged loony here to everyone but wackjob youtube channels.
To be fair, UnHerd isn’t terrible. Pretty much hot take amateur hour, but they do seem to fact check well enough. Then, I didn’t watch the video so
