Just three weeks after having an all-time high number of 28 million concurrent players, Steam has managed to break another record and provide its services to 29.2 million gamers across the globe. According to the data from SteamDB, there were 29,201,174 concurrent gamers were utilizing Valve's Steam platform and playing their favorite game without realizing that they were breaking a world record. And of course, the highest contributor to this record are online multiplayer games such as Dota 2 and Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, which achieved 900K and 787K active players in the last 24 hours. This shows an excellent trend for Valve's Steam platform, and we are just a shy away from seeing 30 million concurrent gamers playing "side by side."

Loved CS:GO circa 2013-2015 when they had new operations rolling out nearly every quarter and dumped almost 2000 hours into it. Loved playing competitive on new community maps all the time. Now that they went in the opposite direction and it's mostly pro-level grinding of the same 6 maps year in year out - nah, whatever.

Its like sport: if you dont like the game then you dont like it. CSGO or DOTA are highly competitve games that allows for tactics and teamplay on high level (that improve the longtivity of the games. Combine that with skins and weekly missions tailored to have the user return to the game.

Thats the original CS 1.5/1.6! :D Still playing but imo they spent to much time on duing missions and stuff for non-competive aspects of the game so you might revist the game! :D

Coincidence or not, but I did clock 2400+ hours in DOTA2 and added another few of them this week.

And its still fun, somehow. Even with all the updates you can still just pick it up, pick a lane, and kill things. It still plays like a dream as it did back in the Warcraft 3 days, really.

I mainly played CS 1.6 when I was a kid and later on CS:Source when it was new along with HL 2 and I was in high school.
Never in a competitive way tho, strictly with friends only while talking on Ventrilo and just having fun.

CS:Go, meh I never got into it even tho I have it installed, like I tried it recently online but that was more or less enough cause I'm just not a competitive person.
I would rather play vs bots even if I do play such games nowadays.

Same with Dota 2, maybe with friends who play for fun only its alright but I would never play it with randoms ever again.
Imo this type of games have the worst toxic/annoying players/community and thats not my idea of fun so its a hard pass for me. 'even worse than your average MMO'

The "player" count provided isn't actual people playing. It's just users. There's a difference in how you word the title of your news article. In the picture it shows actual players gaming in the 5-9mil range and Steam users in the 20-30mil range.

I was thinking, "Damn, that's a lot of people playing at once." and then I looked at the picture and realized it isn't that many people playing, just that many people connected to Steam.

I never played CS:GO, I did play source and the original Counter Strike when the game released. I was pretty good back in the release days of the original game, but I've lost interest in online gaming from the constant whining and cheating that just runs rampant in every game. I just avoid those headaches these days and spend my time doing something that's entertaining, instead of nerve wracking. I never tried DOTA 1/2 - I found enough irritation from what bit of LoL I played that I didn't need to bother with another MOBA.

I have to say that CS is probably one of the most successful game title in history. The game is more than 2 decades old, and the number of players is still very high. Having said that, I have not played CS Go for a very very long time. Used to play online with others, but starting to find too many cheaters that spoils the game.

Here's the thing - I don't enjoy missions and all that coop stuff :D I simply want to play the standard 5v5 with normal economy but on cool new maps, haha, that's why early CSGO was so fun for me, even more than 1.6 or CS:S (which I also spent considerable amount of time playing): I could play on new maps with enforced competitive rules, without 10v10 or some random admin's custom server crap.

This probably means that you are not a competitive or habitual gamer :D
I sinked hundreds of hours in Dota when it was just a WC3 mod and Valve wasn't even in a picture.
CS wasn't my thing, not because it was bad, but 'cause when the original came out in 2000, I got my first job as an admin in a gaming club, and everyone and everyone's dog, cat, and hamster were playing Counter Strike. I was more of a HLDM and Quake nerd )))

No I am not a competitive gamer, I think you are correct in your thinking here. I never have been a competitive gamer due to my medical issues, some days are worse than others, take today for example, my entire left arm has been shaking all day and I can't stop it. It's progressively gotten worse and worse for over a decade, doctor's don't know what is wrong with me, just an unlucky tremor they said, they have done a lot of tests on me, so I don't know lol

But yeah, I have a mountain list of medical problems, they are all manageable, but it does mean that I view the world and interact with the world differently than most.

I will admit to being a habitual gamer, not competitive.
