The Gigabyte UD850GM is a decent choice at around $110. It lacks a bit in overall performance, but has fully working protection features, compact dimensions, and won't force you to wear earplugs as long as it isn't pushed hard. I expect an upgraded version with a 12VHPWR connector for future GPUs soon.

yeah EVGA PSU's are cheaper than this at same wattage. I just don't know why you would go with anything else personally.

Corsair is another safe bet. Not sure I would try my PC parts to anyone else other than those two or Seasonic.

I feel Gigabyte should just get out of the PSU business. They lost the trust of customers when they clearly mishandled the exploding PSU saga which lasted for almost a year before they decided to do something when being caught and called out openly. Regardless of the build quality, I will certainly not purchase or recommend any Gigabyte PSU or potentially product. At the end of the day, Gigabyte don’t manufacture PSU. All they do is to make some customisation to the PSU that they order from OEM, and finally slap their brand on it. So I don’t think we are missing out anything by not buying any PSU from them.

I'm not surprised, but i'd be an unpopular reviewer with nice headlines about false advertising and 'don't buy' in the title

40 series will be the first to use it, but we'll have replcacement cables for existing PSU's as well from major brands (well, for modular PSU's at least)
