Red Dead Redemption 2 recently got support for AMD's FidelityFX Super Resolution 2.0 through a community mod. The addon converts the officially supported DLSS render path into instructions the AMD FSR 2.0 algorithm understands, and results are excellent.

Is it just me or does the tree in the background lose a lot of volume with FSR? DLSS and Native seem to be about the same, FSR is a drought-year.

FSR 2.0 Quality FPS is nearly the same as native... making it a bit pointless, no?

this is what I was taking away from this as well... to be fair even DLSS, FSR 2.0, versus Native FPS.... the gains really aren't much at all... not sure why you would bother turning on either one honestly, as the gains are too low to be worthwhile... unless I am reading something wrong anyway.

The point, as the article explains if you actually read it, is that the native TAA solution is absolute garbage and both DLSS and FSR produce better image quality by comparison. Except, of course, for the issues with FSR that are likely being caused by it being hacked in unofficially.

I guess that makes sense for 1080p, but I really don't see it being relevant at 4k.

At 4K it would be relevant for performance reasons then.

Yes, something feels off. Also notice the sun's reflection on the puddle at the beginning is gone. This game needs a proper implementation of FSR.

That's a CPU bottleneck then. Odd. Ah typical Rockstar game, at it again
Yeah, only commenting on the results here. DLSS does much better for FPS gain in this game, other things aside.

This game needs a proper implementation of FSR.
Yeah, kind of feels like the mod isn't 100%

Seems the FSR mod is faulty, it doesn't make much sense. A CPU bottleneck wouldn't exclude DLSS.

hmm... I'm running a 1200p 24" monitor, I can't really see the gains.

No-one would agree with me, but to me this upscaling stuff is like H.265; it only makes sense at ultra high resolutions. Too much weirdness and missing details in lower resolutions. Honestly the better solution for higher gaming FPS is just a lower resolution on a CRT monitor - no need to scale up to match your LCD's native resolution.

I recall the performance uplift for DLSS in this game was also quite bad. Especially when you compare it with other games with DLSS, the performance uplift is very poor. So it is possible that FSR 2.0 inherited this problem since this mod is likely built on the back of DLSS optimisations. FSR 2.0 is worst at 4K, possibly due to extra overhead on the GPU resources for the upscaling, or it is upscaling from a fairly high resolution @ Quality settings, and the extra overhead on the GPU takes a toll on its performance.

Just amazing.
Don't matter in the end RDO did not turn out to replace GTA5 ( the next cash cow ) so RS and T2 don't give a flying uck about the game.

The game doesn’t even compete with GTA5, the games are very different genre wise. RDR2 runs along GTA, nothing to do with each other.

If it's not a cash cow they don't care
