be quiet! is celebrating 20 years and is adding a new twist to one of its most popular cases with the Pure Base 500 FX which is based on the original 500 DX. Equipped with four Light Wings fans and sporting an ARGB controller with PWM Fan hub, it hopes to give that chassis a second live at the same time.

When the 500DX launched at $100, it was considered a more expensive but acceptable alternative to other cheaper airflow cases due to better build quality. Now, to celebrate their anniversary, be quiet retreads the same design but with RGB fans and $50 tacked onto the price. What a joke.

Then look at the Be Quiet Pure Base 500DX. It's a good case.

Cutting airflow for aesthetics is fine with me as long as it's not taken too far and the thermals are still good after (which is true here). It's the high RGB tax that bothers me, especially since everything else about the case seems identical to the 500DX.

the filter behind the mesh would be more restrictive there, I would just remove it, the mesh is suficient to act as filter, but I like it anywasy

Then look at the Be Quiet Pure Base 500DX. It's a good case.

Majority of cases these days have this quirk, and its worse with mATX mini towers.

I like the look of this case. I'd prefer a white variant.

On top i like the thumbscrews on the side panel... adds a bit of industrial masculanity (if thats a thing lol). Although i admit, for convenience i prefer a hinged glass panel but then again i very rarely need to open her up.

At the current price it is really good no? It's pretty much the same price as the Corsair 4000X and has 2 extra fans even if you don't care about the RGB (which I don't). I think it is the best case around its current price point.

But after the discount ends I see no point.

Have you looked at what RGB fans cost recently? Not to mention 500dx is still available.

The DX has quite trashy fans compared to these.
The FX actually uses, as TPU likes to call it, retail-grade fans, while the DX uses some weird knock-off variant of the (budget / not excellent) Pure Wings 2 with different specs.

Meaning if you compare the specs on https://www.bequiet.com/en/case/3736 to the individual fans https://www.bequiet.com/en/casefans/3450 and https://www.bequiet.com/en/casefans/3451 , you will see they are in fact the same.

If you buy a DX and for example two Arctic P12 and one P14, you are back to the price of the FX (based on current sale pricing of each in my region).
