The PNY Geforce RTX 4080 XLR8 Gaming Verto OC is one of the most impressive cards tested today. It's just $1200, yet comes with a fantastic cooling solution that achieves low temperatures and whisper-quiet noise levels. Also included is a factory overclock and adjustable RGB illumination.

In my opinion, I agree with PNY's choice to not provide the ability to increase power limit. 4080 already runs at high clock speed and voltage. Any more power will increase performance by 1-2% at best which isn't worth the sacrifice of more heat.

4080 having memory rated for 24 Gbps really surprised me though. No wonder every card easily reached 1500 MHz memory OC.

Edit - How interesting. Comparing RTX 4080 16 GB vs 6800XT 16 GB. Same VRAM quantity. 4080 is 60% faster in non-RT games and 80-110% faster in RT games and consumes either similar or less power. And this is not even counting the additional features like DLSS 3 or Reflex. But it costs 125% more. What a card.

A vapor-chamber soaks up heat from the GPU quickly and moves it through eight heatpipes to the heatsink.
I don't think it's vapor chamber. Look's like usual plate for me. They just added another metal plates for memory to use less thick thermal pads.

GPU voltage is a 14-phase design, managed by a UPI uP9512R controller.
13 for me.

The only card out of the 8 cards tested not the Editors Choice award, which seems strange when it is both:
The cheapest card
The most quiet card
Of the 8 cards tested

@W1zzard I check all cards. Only Suprim and STRIX have them. All other reviews have got same copy-pasta. Please take a look.

Kinda new to all this so I apologize if I'm asking a dumb question.
I picked up a standard PNY 4080. Where I'm at, a PNY 4080 OC is $30 more. Do you think it's worth the extra $30? I can also get a MSI Ventus OC, but looks like the PNY the better option?

In the past I've attempted to OC my GPU using afterburner, but honestly not sure if i did it correctly. I wouldn't mind paying the $30 if the OC adds significant performance. Or is this just something I could do with trial and error to end with the same results?
Also, does not having vapor chamber a bad thing?

Thanks!

To answer on this question you have to look on what is diffirent in PNY 4080 and PNY 4080 OC. Without looking on PNY 4080 official tech page i guess it will be only GPU core frequency. Are that diffirence cost $30?

I can also get a MSI Ventus OC, but looks like the PNY the better option?
It's really depends. Some people like MSI, but some absolutely hate them (like me). Take a look on diffirences between MSI and PNY.

I wouldn't mind paying the $30 if the OC adds significant performance.
It will not be significant. PNY cards and MSI Ventus (even OC) are still middle (if now low) tier cards. Irecomment to go in TPU database, type 4080 in search and sort list by "Boost". It will show you which is better and who at the bottom.

Also, does not having vapor chamber a bad thing?
For 4080 it is not. You may compare low tier 4080 with something like ROG STRIX\Suprim by temperatures (GPU\Memory).

Thanks for the reply! I'll do some research! Not sure if it applies to the PNY, but I saw that oc cards typically have "binned" chips that leads to more stability?
Good to know about MSI. Alot of my other PC components are MSI so I just had decent experience with the brand.

Much appreciated!

No, they all are stable at set specifications, but OC cards are working at a bit higher frequency. It's more about marketing this days. Best example is RTX 3080 Trinity i think. Stock and OC diffirence just 15 MHz. Man, it's a JOKE. You will not see performance lift because of that 15 MHz factory overclock. It's margine of error basicly. It's very difficult to convert that +15 MHz in FPS, but very easy to money.

Another example with Radeon RX 6900 XT and their regular XTX GPU and XTXH version which is faster and better:

XFX Speedster SWFT319 RX 6900 XT CORE - 2250 MHz (Boost)
XFX Speedster MERC319 RX 6900 XT Limited - 2495 MHz (Boost) +245 MHz

In currect RTX 4080 i really don't like that cut of Bus to 256bit. I want it to be full - 384bit. So, i will wait and look for 4080 Ti.

Noted! Yeah I do know that it's alot of marketing, but I guess for me personally it's peace of mind. If it ultimately won't make a difference, might not be worth it then.

Yeah I'm coming from a 2060 and want to upgrade to high FPS 1440p gaming. I bought the 4080 just to just have it on hand, but i'm also looking forward to how the 7900xtx compares because it looks promising...just never owned an AMD GPU so I'm not too familiar with it's overall performance and drivers.
