I just don't know who in their right mind would buy this when you can find AIB 4090's for $50 cheaper. All 4090's stay cold as well from what I have seen, its very different compared to AMD gpu's. So it's not like you would be getting a "bad" 4090.

There are crazy af people out there though, so I guess go ahead and get less performance with this for more money...

For the same money you could buy a 4090, or a cheaper 4080 and a better CPU....I don't see this product for anyone other than wealthy people who don't want the best performance for their money for some reason and have really sensitive ears? Maybe?

well some 7900 xtx run hotter than others, some even throttle without a new fan curve.

every 4090 review I have seen shots even the hotspot temp being quite cold in comparison... so there is no risk of throttle with any 4090 model.

All cards have various temperatures, Nvidia and Intel included, and at least for TPU reviews, I've yet to see a single one on a 7900xt or 7900xtx that mentions throttling

I agree, get the 4090. However there are a fair amount of people who will pay through the teeth on all sorts of components to reduce noise and just want quiet or if at all possible a silent PC and don't want to water cool it, which is not silent cause then you hear the pump!

I'm not saying silent is my jam, but this whole DIY style is not really about gaming, it's about the hobby of doing it your way. For some people that's RGB bling vomit. For others that's massively complex liquid cooling systems. For others it's just making the quietest PC they can. For yet more it's custom cases and art work. Then there is the crowd that just wants the smallest PC possible. All of this is hurling money at something that could better be spent elsewhere. But it makes people happy so why not! Hell there are some that just like building it even when they could get a premade that performs better for less.

you don't remember the 110 celsius fiasco recently? AMD's response was literally "110 celsius is within spec" then they changed course after the backlash... temps hotspot on any 4090 don't even go past like 75 celsius... let alone the 90's which some 7900 xtx's hit... so you are missing my overall point.

Wasn't that do to manufacturing errors in the vapor chamber as opposed to the cooler design or gpu architecture? My issue was with your original claim of throttling, of which I've seen no evidence of in any AIB review whether with the default fancurve or otherwise. I've yet to see any AIB 7900XT or 7900XTX have an overall operating temperature in the 90s, but maybe I'm not looking at the same reviews. But yes, I believe I am missing your overall point....is it that a $1600 card has a lower operating temperature than some reference cards with a manufacturing error?

I get the feeling there must be folk in the Asus boardroom laughing at this product, saying, "Wow - they actually fell for our Frankenmod."

It's a 4080, it's one-foot long, and it's four slots thick: of course it's going to cool well. As w1zz says in the review, other manufacturers could easily do this.

For that much price markup you can get a custom fitting AIO for the reference card.

edit: or like the others said, remove the puny miniature fans the stock cards come with and zip tie two normal 120x25mm fans to the heat sink. That will cost you only two fans and a pwm splitter, perhaps a 4-pin to gpu fan connector converter (not sure if those still work though, last time I went this route was with the HD6950)... or just connect it to one of the bajillion motherboard fan connector and use a program like FanControl to set up a custom temperature/rpm curve. Even assuming you go for the expensive noctua a12x25, you can get this done from $100 and get much better cooling and less noise.

I certainly don't see the appeal of this product at this price point, and have run aio's in several builds as well as custom loops, but pump noise is always a factor with water cooling. The point of water cooling is about performance & it certainly has superior performance at most noise levels, but very low noise levels, to the point of "silent" isn't it. I suppose that there are some people out there who want to build the highest performing "silent" PC that they can, in which case air cooling and a GPU like this one may be the best option.

I have to say I find this to be a very meh product just because of the ridiculous price over the base cost. I mean I already don't like paying the crazy price for waterblock editions but I feel those are more justified than this. Rather buy the STRIX or pretty much any other than this even though I really like the Noctua fans on this.

Considering how "over-cooled" are almost all versions of RTX 4080 (using same cooler as 4090), this card doesn't make any sense, even more so with such price.

Yeah, I don't see why anyone would buy this over PNY or Suprim that are also cheaper. Other than, maybe, it fits into a build full of brown Noctua fans out of the box?
There was a certain point for it among the 3080s but now that every 4080 is a 2kg 3+ slot cooler beast it feels pointless.

Im Sorry but a 33% increase in price for "a better cooler" does not warrant a recommendation when you can get a the MSI 4090 for the same price which obviously brings a lot more performance for very little extra noise.

Get a loop with a silent pump then. I used one on my old Vega card, it was one of the alphacool sets with a very silent pump. The only annoying noise it had was whenever a bubble got into the system (when I opened the quick release plugs) and started making this slurping noise, eventually I had to get a top up kit. But the pump was silent enough that I could sleep next to it.

It's for the fans of Noctua fans that want an all out Noctua build. About 10 people worldwide or so. It's more a PR card than anything so go light on the criticism.
I'm pretty sure it was deliberately priced more than 4090, just to add to the selectiveness of users- only for the true hard ones.
