Two months ago French developer - 2:21 - announced plans for complete remasters of the quirky mid-to-late Nineties-era Little Big Adventure or Relentless: Twinsen's Adventure/Odyssey (titles were confusingly region dependent back then) games series. The team has paused work on a third entry/reboot, and development of spruced-up versions of the original games has since become the priority - both LBA Remasters are being rebuilt on the Unreal Engine 5 platform, and key members from the old Adeline Software outfit are involved in the remake process.

Ben Limare, the CEO at 2:21, has provided a small update this week - he mentions that a new teaser trailer was debuted at AG French Direct, and now the pre-alpha gameplay footage has been uploaded to YouTube and the company's social media accounts. The introduction states: "Discover the first video and images of the upcoming demo for Twinsen's Little Big Adventure Remastered! Built from the ground up, enjoy new breathtaking visuals, enhanced music and improved, deeper gameplay as Twinsen's Little Big Adventure - Remastered reignites the original TLBA game using the latest next-generation technology." The team reconfirms that a demo version of Twinsen's Little Big Adventure 1 Remastered will be playable in June.

Limare encourages fans to spread the word: "Once again, we are asking for your help to make this video as known as possible. Could you please share, like & tweet via the following links: Twitter, Facebook & Instagram."

We're eager to share an exclusive teaser trailer for our upcoming demo. It's a sneak peek that we think you'll appreciate, offering a glimpse into the exciting journey that lies ahead:

"The best way to support us is to add the game to your Steam wishlists (also available on GoG and EGS)."

That looks... ugly. LBA was quite a technical marvel for its time and at least this footage also fails to capture the artistry part of it.
Yes, I understand it is pre-alpha and all, but couldn't they come up with something that looks good for PR purposes?

My god, my brain hurts from the godawful slowness of that trailer's gameplay. What did I just look at, even. A dude walking through completely uninspired hallway with a few NPCs doing scripted stuff. Okay.

I played LBA back in the day... they could have picked a better sequence lol

While I really appreciate that they are looking into re-releasing this amazing game, im not really a fan of the look of the remaster myself.

What were you all expecting? They remade the game in the same general styling and view angle but with more details, than what gouraud shading could achieve alone. I will be glad to try it as now most gaming services offer you a way to test a game and return if you don't like it. It really was a strange adventure as a young one playing this odd game, it had kind of a creepy vibe to it. It was difficult to control with keyboard alone.

It is quite subjective but remaster seems to be going for a more cartoony look. The original was cartoony but that seemed to have been largely related to technical limitations of the time. But still, hard edges, more realistic looking elements and what look like more detailed textures. From my personal feel of LBA/LBA2 the added detail seems off thematically. Additional detail is necessary though, otherwise the world would look and feel empty.

For direct-ish comparison:

I prefer the original version, which was a really good game. If they want to make money, they should invest at least time to give it an additional value, not just a copy.

yes the pre-rendered landscapes is the main difference between the gfx of the and now. They could still do it. In fact it should look pretty darn good if they did that. Because can you imagine what the computers of today could do with pre-rendering? Woa. Anyways I see what your saying g about how it's looking cartoony. I prefer prerender over this too. But to the guy yannus1 how can you say you haven't play the new one yet and hello! Mcfly?! It's pre alpha dude.

Doesnt look great to me :/

Loved the original and have rebought it since. But the visuals on the original were amazing back in the day, but on this remake I wouldnt glance at it for more than a second thinking it looked like a so-what effort free mobile game now.

Hope they are actually working on the 3rd one however.
