The MSI GeForce RTX 4060 Ti comes with the best cooler of all RTX 4060 Ti cards that we've tested. The triple-slot, triple-fan thermal solution that could fit a RTX 4070 Ti runs whisper quiet at an impressive 23 dBA and super cool at only 56°C, under full load.

What is up with MSI (and Zotac) GPUs eating way more watts at idle and in video playback than the competition? Noticed the same issues with 4070, 4070Ti, 4080 and 4090.

Benchmark Scores I once clocked a Celeron-300A to 564MHz on an Abit BE6 and it scored over 9000.
Overpaying for a cooler that isn't needed really hurts this card's reason to exist.

$470 for an 8GB card that's barely an improvement over the old 3060Ti?

Where's the conclusion? ;)

Conclusion. Total waste of money!

Seriously why do we need this level of cooling on the gutless low powered 4060 Ti. Average 1.2fps increase at 1440p is within margin of error. Sure it'll OC a bit better than FE but use a lot more power for still underwhelming improvements.

Speak for yourself, please. A better question is why limit the minimum fan RPM to the level that the GPU is sitting at 55 degrees Celsius at full load? It could be a silent 600-700 RPM GPU. Things are even worse when you are using V-sync in older titles. Then the minimum fan RPM is even more overkill.

Also, it's another MSI GPU with an idle power draw level much above the competition. All Ada Gaming X and Supreme models have the same problem. TPU measured 4090 Suprim X having 38W in idle, while the FE model sits at the much more acceptable 21W. One guy reported an issue with his 4090 Suprim Liquid X drawing 38-40 W in idle and shared MSI customer support's response:

"Dear Sir:
Thanks for choosing MSI!
Glad to be of service.
Regarding your concern,
The idle power consumption of around 30-40W is the normal usage of the RTX 40 series"

"We have carefully verified the problems you have reported. Currently, it seems that these are factory standards, and there may not be room for BIOS optimization"

HW cooling measured a quite heavy coil whine on this card too, much higher than MSI Gaming X variants of 3070 and 3060 Ti, and a bit higher than other MSI 4000 series GPUs.
I sense a lot of corner-cutting in power delivery. The high-performing cooling is here to stay, as it's the main selling point.

With the 4060Ti and now the 7600 reviews, you're doing a great job launching a dozen reviews within 3 days of each other.
Don't forget to sleep!

I left the similar comment for the ASUS similar review.

It appears to me, the MSI card has better cooling and less noise than the ASUS TUF.
I have need for absolute max cooling, because I transcode video using the AV1 encoder, which pegs the GPU at max temps.
Transcoding without the NVENC hardware runs some 96 hours at full temps... not my idea of a good time.

The 4060-ti is the lowest priced Series 40 card with nVidia hardware AV1 encoding.

Thank you for the tear down views in your reviews.
It appears to my eyes that the MSI cooling hardware is the superior solution.

doesn't the 4060 do AV1 encoding also?

Yes.
I bought the ASUS variety of 4060-ti for two reasons.
#1 being the fan shroud is removable for cleaning without disturbing the heat paste.
#2 being "in for a penny, in for a pound" as I usually buy the "-ti" versions, despite them being a bit more expensive.
