Gigabyte's GeForce RTX 4060 WindForce OC is the most compact card in our testing today. It is priced at the $300 MSRP, yet can sneak in a small factory overclock. In our testing the small cooler doesn't do so well though and ends up running quite hot and loud.

Given these high hardware prices I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of PC gamers start considering the various game consoles. Microsoft's Xbox Series S sells for $300, the Sony PS5 Digital for $400 - the price of just the graphics card. Both will give you a first-class gaming experience without shader compilation stutters and other PC port troubles. Gaming at 4K works well, and ray tracing is included in most titles. No doubt, the visual quality will be lower than on a high-end gaming PC, but it'll be good enough for a lot of people who just want to enjoy their games and feel like they are getting priced out of the PC gaming market.

This must be the saddest summary about the PC state of affairs I've read in a looong time.

suprised to see the GIGABYTE WINDFORCE GPU cooler performing the worst amongst others...

they probably want to sell their "Aorus" brand 3 slot cooler 4060 for 100$ more..
too bad.

Nobody should buy this card, period.
In my opinion, the RTX 4060 should not be taken in general. Lower memory and bus than its predecessor, very minor performance improvement in comparison. The only thing Nvidia is marketing this generation is Frame Generation.

4060 has the same transistor count as a 3070 Ti for example so the extra budget went to L2 cache and Frame generation and in order to compete it has to use the DLSS now. Someone very unlucky will buy it and for the lack of quality control and any type of concern will end up getting tortured. my GTX 760 two heat pipes has the same type of RPM and temperatures at 200W, but at 125 W wwould have been fine. I mean how much does a single heat pipe cost that they decided to cut the costs so much.

It's not a very compelling card at launch price, but IMO with a price cut, the low power consumption of the 4060 would make it a good upgrade candidate for a lot of prebuilts that come with weak PSUs.

yes, 450-500W psu will be enough for this gpu, so this card will be a tool for updating to a case with a lower power supply.

Really are "meh" cooler for a "meh" card. Needs to be $100 cheaper to sell so Gigabyte didn't bother investing in the cooler for something that won't sell.

Single heatpipe for 120W is dumb. Not only does it fail to cover the whole die, we know from experience that a heatpipe of that diameter gets overwelmed by about 75W of heat soak.

There's a good reason CPU and GPU coolers usually use at least three of them...

Although this card only has one heatpipe and I'd expect it to perform the worst out of the bunch, the performance measured is way beyond bad and genuinely concerning.
Did W1zzard get a dud or something? Surely the card isn't THAT bad?

As ridiculous as it would be, I'm making a wild guess and saying the direct contact heatpipe doesn't make good contact at all, both with the GPU and the heatsinks.

It's just that I noticed that practically all the most efficient coolers from those reviewed use a plate instead of direct heatpipe. Sure, that may be only be correlation without causation.

I'm looking to buy a new GPU. Currently I have Gigabyte GeForce GTX 1650 Super WindForce OC. I'm not very happy with it's fan controller. It's revving way too aggressively with the default fan curve. Otherwise I have no problems with the card. The temperatures are a bit high and it's a bit loud though.

So on the topic - is there a cooling problem with Gigabyte GeForce RTX 4060 WindForce OC? Or is it your unit defective? What does Gigabyte said?

Looking at your reviews - I think I prefer the MSI GeForce RTX 4060 Gaming X, because it's colder and quieter than Gigabyte, but what is the catch?
Actually I wanted to buy the ASUS Dual GeForce RTX4060 OC, but it is not available here.

So it's either Gigabyte or MSI. Thanks.

I never heard back from them, regarding this specific case, so I guess my results are valid, or they would have made an effort to get them fixed
