Baldur's Gate 3 is the newest RPG masterpiece by Larian Studios. The graphics are excellent for a top-down isometric RPG and you also get support for DLSS, DLAA and FSR. In our performance review, we're taking a closer look at image quality, VRAM usage, and performance on a selection of modern graphics cards.

Noice and totally aligns with my experiences including everything in the conclusion also about the game itself..., though I do also get 65-70 ish minimums even on a 8700K. So I guess the 13900K is mostly sweating to achieve higher FPS, but the bottom line is carried quite well even by less recent / powerful CPUs (using a mere 65-70W at that, too ;)). On a 7900XT I only fall slightly below your measurements it seems.

Far more importantly though, the game is good and works on release. Awesome job @ Larian.

it isn't tested, but according to pcgh, 3D cpu's demolish everything else.

Also, the game only offers FSR 1.0 and no dlss 3, which is a shame for both technologies.

I'm only 3 hours into the game and everything is polished, from the visual, character models, framerates to real-time cutscenes, I sure glad I paid 60usd for it on GOG 2 years ago :D

It looks like the game runs a little better in vulkan on the AMD side, and much better in DX11 on the Nvidia side. Could this be one of the first AAA releases without major performance issues? :)

It’s nice to see the game engine can put out nice graphics without being overly demanding.

as for 100s of hours….how many hours to beat the game?

I concur. As I said in another post, with a 5950x and a 2700SUPER, I'm above 100fps constant in HD. Pretty sweet. I'll be able to skip this generation of video cards for the next one. I'm not big on their turn-based combat system (I hate it!) and their colorful, childish environment, but I have to give it to them that the game is pretty good otherwise.

Intel is also the only GPU vendor to have released game-ready drivers for Baldur's Gate 3. Good job! Not sure why NVIDIA and AMD are so slow, this actually seems to be a recent trend where Intel is beating the established top dogs.
iirc nv and amd already released theirs during the ea phase; nothing about the graphics engine's new at this point so yeah

I use a 7840HS, so a RDNA 3 iGPU and it works surprisingly well, can have a lot of settings at medium and have it running at above 30. With everything Ultra being around ~25 FPS.

iirc nv and amd already released theirs during the ea phase; nothing about the graphics engine's new at this point so yeah
While that's true, there might be further optimizations for, say RDNA3, that hasn't got around yet as it is relatively new. I can imagine that there are shaders that aren't optimized to the new dual-issue capabilities(and compiler is bad at finding such optimizations).

Honest question, where's the spoiler? I did check all the screenshots. Also the order is randomized to not give away plot progression.

Or are you saying that showing a dragon = spoiler?

Benchmark Scores They're pretty good, nothing crazy.
I mean they had like 3 years to polish it and it shows. It's really no different than the later patches of the early access version, especially the graphics and performance -- some tweaks here and there, but it's kind of masquerading as a "new" game when really it's an old game with a ton of new content.

They figured out the engine and graphics ~3 years ago.

Kinda shows what kind of maturity games in development really require to be what they say they are.

The release cadence of franchises especially does NOT match with this, not even by a long shot. 2 years, 3 years total dev time, but more often even 1,5 year with the rehashed nonsense content. The majority just gets released a year too early, I guess the idea is the dev train ends when the DLC train ends or something? Its such a shame.

iirc nv and amd already released theirs during the ea phase; nothing about the graphics engine's new at this point so yeah
Which actually means Intel is fashionably late :D

Man I really want to upgrade to that 7800X3D, even though I have no need whatsoever. But damn

Characters that you may get or may meet, but that's just probably me being picky.

...and there's a clear kinky scene with a big lady troll ;)

If you've played the game you'll recognize them -> no spoiler
If you haven't there's no way you'll remember anything about them from the screenshots, I tried to not include anything that's memorable, except for the guys kissing scene

Good :)

What part of the game was used for the test?
It looks like you are CPU limited to ~110FPS with the 13900K vs other reviews that are running 187-260FPS

260FPS is on the ship at the start of the game so no surprise it is not very demanding on the CPU.
187FPS is wandering around the first town you come too.

I am guessing the city of Baldur's gate will be one of the most demanding parts of the game for the CPU.

It's high time for TPU to dump that dog of a CPU.
it's a 13900k, some titles like this, love 3d cache, others like csgo, may love higher intel frequencies, it's a bit of a lottery.

lovely performance for a new game in 2023. As it should be. Shows that the other game makers simply don't bother with optimizations as much as they could.

They did the massive early access for DOS2 as well... They always release one chapter with the new engine, spend 2-3 years tuning and testing it, while the rest of the team spends time on content.

I feel like the bigger studios do the opposite - max effort on engine graphics, 0 testing and minimum content.

Holy crap, look at those numbers! :twitch: The 13900K is absolutely chocking on the game.

2nd that. The 13900K is at this stage just unfit for the purpose of benchmark reviews.

They did cripple the other chips with that slow ram, who the heck would pair a 13900k with that other than to show off with more cache
